Hope this is not a repost. If it is please let me know and I will delete.

Verizon has lowered their unlimited data plan from $45 to $30 per month for several of their PDAs. Call verizon or check online to find out if your phone qualifies for the lowered price.

If your PDA is not yet added it probably will be soon. You may want to check again in a few days.

Below is a list of PDAs which have been confirmed compatible with this new plan

i760
700Wx
SMT5800
XV6800
xv6900 - Thanks 190rev
Q - Thanks tekkshaman
Q9m
Q9C - Thanks b5fan
Blackberry Curve - Thanks b5fan & gaijin4life

The $29.99/month unlimited plan does not support Exchange, which should primarily impact enterprise users. The new data plan will provide unlimited access to the web and up to 10 personal e-mail accounts, including free Internet email providers such as Windows Live, AOL and Yahoo.

Are you tethering? Under this new plan tethering goes from $15 a month to $30. If you want to tether for free with this new plan, GOOGLE IS YOUR BEST FRIEND.

Here is the list of smartphones that were turned down for this promotion.
700W (note that 700Wx is ok for discount ... go figure)
BB 8830 - Thanks gaijin4life

What about unlimited usage on the air cards?

Isn't their "unlimited usage" really limited to 5 GB per month?

It's not showing up as an option for my i760. I wonder if it will take a while for their website to update the information or do I need to call AGAIN.

I would call them.

I just called up and had it lowered to $30 for My i760. Last time I checked (2 months ago) it wasn't available on the i760 yet. Thanks OP!

And how, exactly, are they doing this?

Windows Mobile will let you sync to any incoming and outgoing mail server you please. Are they reading your message traffic and if the mail server isn't on their "free personal e-mail provider" whitelist, they charge out the wazoo for it?

What happens when I http to a webmail server to read my mail?

Verizon needs to DIAF for these shenanigans.

You are correct...blocking syncs with Exchange would only truly work if they read your traffic. This would probably be illegal in most states, but you never know with the way things are going. That said, they could just block the standard Exchange port. Beyond that, they could allow Exchange but disable features like push email/calendar/etc. notification. This is one of the largest reasons to use an exchange server on a mobile device, and it only works properly if everybody supports the same "push" features. Maybe this plan doesn't support those features so push won't work?

VW is a really shady company. They have a lot of grey areas in their pricing and plans. I have call them virtually every month to have adjustments made to my account. Ther is no reason to have different pirces for the unlimited data plans for different PDAs and cell phone. Why can they not have a simple pricing model?

thanks op.

You may have a point, but doesn't ATT do the exact same thing with the iphone?

Please add the xv6900 to that list!

BTW, I am using MS exchange server-based data just fine with this plan.

Thanks OP, you just saved me $20 bucks a month (used to have $40 data plan on 2 phones).

Thanks OP

does this apply to a current subscription of an air card? I pay $60/mo now.

If they do then I'll come back...I really miss it on the daily commute.

I called and got the package added to my i760. Woohoo! Corporate discounts apply too!

what adjustments ? can you explain more...

i find it a very good company.. the coverage is superb ..the customer service is very good...call quality is good..

How can we find out if they are doing this to the aircards? Would love a discount on my current $60/mo plan.

Called verizon, and my phone wasn't compatible with this discount. Bastards.

Which phone is this? Please share so that I can update OP.

confirmed on xv6900. woohoo. time to DL like it's 2099.

This plan is only for cell phones. The air cards do not qualify so you're still stuck with the $60/month for those. My friend has this plan and added the tethering option for $15 so I'm not sure about the OP's statement of $30 for tethering.

Also add the Q9C to the list as well as all BlackBerrys. Its not the same plan for the BBs, but they do have a similar $29.99 plan specifically for BBs.

+1....very much not "shady."

how about tethering with a non-PDA phone? i heard some people use vcast vpak unlimited plan to tether but you're not supposed to. what's the cheapest way to tether with a non-PDA phone?

Another phone to add to compatibility, as I have a Motorola Q (original Moto Q). Just want to add - I do IT - and the owner of our company and I are both on this $30/mo. plan now after he discovered it a month ago upon getting a new phone. He has a Motorola Q9c.

I switched to this plan, and we are both active syncing (push email over the air) to his exchange server with absolutely no problems. He reimburses me for my data plan, but I was happy to save some money for him and lower the monthly bill. Verizon's policies seem fairly restrictive and obtuse - but in actual use I haven't found many problems with them. I've had hit and miss issues with their stores when I have a problem.

Very nice. Wish I heard about this 3 months ago. As an add on to the previous post - it appears you can still use Exchange if you use ActiveSync Direct Push. Apparently you cannot use exchange if you use the Verizon Wireless Sync application.

Can you explain this more in-depth? I am using ActiveSync and Exchange thru 1and1.com. How exactly would Verizon stop the push from working and can they? If my exchange can work then I'm all over this!

Based on feedback form users....

ActiveSync Direct Push will work for Exchange mail.
VZW will let it slide it you tether.
VZW will have a problem if you go past 5 GB on your 'unlimited' account.

Not sure how many people would go over 5 GB per month on a regular basis. Anyone run into this issue?

This has been the case for Blackberry (w/o BES) since last year and PDA's since early this year. OLD NEWS!

English non tech translation for this please?

it's called second degree price discrimination. Charge those who will pay $45 the $45 rate while the cheapa**es like us call and get the $30 rate.

No go on the Blackberry 8830 World Smartphone. Still $44.99. The rep I talked to said all she saw that allowed unlimited data on a blackberry was the Blackberry Curve. All the rest were $44.99 for unlimited.

still the data plan is expensive. i dare to use it.

and i dont know why verizon cap data to 5gb. even though there is no cap, i dont think people will use that much data.

I'm a newbie to smartphones and all this stuff, but I'll tell you I have the BB Curve and LOVE IT! Had to return the BB world edition twice b/c it sucked. Horrible reception, buttons annoying, etc...

I'm not paying much more / month for the plan than I did for my regular cell w/ vcast.

I don't get involved in the 'push' thing I guess; all of my biz emails are forwarded to one yahoo paid account which works well for me.

Do you have a link with more info on this ? I also sync with wireless activesync and live on it but, saving $15 a month is kind of a big deal ($45 a month for something I use maybe 5 min a day total, my cable modem is cheaper than that and I use that a lot more)

I've had my BB Pearl for a few months now and I was paying the $29.99 ever since. Also don't forget if you work for a decent size company to check if you have verizon discount. Verizon can tell you. Below is what my breakdown looks like.

Current Calling Plan 08/16 - 09/15 60.00
24% Access discount 08/16 - 09/15 -14.40
Current Data Plan 08/16 - 09/15 29.99
20% - Feature Discount Add'l Line 08/16 - 09/15 -6.00

Do you mean wireless Activesync as in using Microsoft's ActiveSync software on your PC and syncing via Bluetooth? Or do you mean using Verizon's Wireless Sync feature? This new plan will not allow access to Verizon's Wireless Sync feature so if that is what you use, you will lose that ability.

And you can't compare cost to your cable modem. You can't take your cable modem with you.

Skipping 35 Messages...

Hi, thanks for the post!

I have i760, I don't see the $29.99 unlimited data on my account.
I login in to my VW account, go to "add more feature", it shows 35.99 for unlimited data.
Did they increased the price? Or I have to call to get it?

Also, does this data plan support International? I mean if I check email or DATA only in England, Japan, Thailand or China, will I be charged for roaming? or I need to get the international data plan?

Thanks
