I ended up buying this... I bought a $40 coupon from the bay bringing the price to $560. The current DPA Dell deal is 4 cores for $430 but that seems to be the only thing going for it.
Dell does not have
* LCD for $130
* digital sound output SPIDF which I'd have to buy for the Dell system...
* firewire
* 15-1 port reader,
* HP appears to have more PCI slots in all,
* the spec page on HP says it comes with 64 bit vista, Dell only offers 32 bit.
* 8 channel audio
* Pocket Media Drive Bay (what would I use this for?)
That along with the stellar reviews on BestBuy pushed me over the edge, along with all the XP drivers available. What is Staples return policy? I'm guessing it is 15% restock if opened.
