Ooh! It controls DAT recorders! |
it's a nice screen idea but I believe those 10 buttons can ONLY be used for selecting Tv stations, not for setting up macros , learning etc. I believe a version of this remote is also marketed by X10 that includes x10 control as well. I think it uses RF directly for the X10 part. |
sweet, never had a "fancy" remote before. i'll give it a shot for that price... |
WARNING: This is not ideal for DVRs or DVDs. There are no chapter forward/back or jump forward/back buttons. It has no computer interface - you have to use the built-in code table or learn from another remote. |
Without backlit keys (per Amazon review) this remote is going to be frustrating to use in a dark or dimly lit room - otherwise a nice deal (used to be, and maybe still is, sold by X-10 for $130). |

THIS REMOTE SUCKS! I paid $40 about 4 months ago at CC and wish I would have paid double for a logitech. Main issue is that the thing will NOT turn on and off all of your devices with the BIG red power button at the top. I've got a Plasma and a comcast dvr box. Press the big red button and 1/2 of the time one device will turn on/off but the other won't. Also, you can not reprogram the big red button. Called up phillips and received horrible support. We know about the issue, but there is no way to fix it. Also, the buttons are not logical for a DVR. The only real benefit to the remote is that you can program all your favorite channels into the lcd and quickly pick what channel you want. I'd pass |
One note, there is the ability to program in say a 30 second skip if your current remote has that button. |
If you do not want to take risk, Harmony 550 with a monochrome display at $50 is an option. Not trying to compare apple and oranges: rather apple (Harmony) with an unknown fruit (this remote) |
