Keep in mind that Apple is likely to be introducing new MacBook Pros on September 9. That being said, I can't imagine what they could be introducing that would make this anything other than an astonishingly good deal -- to configure exactly the same computer (with 2.6GHz processor, 7200RPM drive, high-res LED backlit display) NEW from store.Apple.com would currently be $3199 + tax.

Edit: as others have pointed out, the new one isn't exactly the same; vs. the most current model, this one is missing 2MB cache, pinch-to-zoom trackpad (though it does still have multi-touch scrolling), and LED backlighting. AFAIK it's otherwise identical (and new, with full Apple warranty), for $1400 less (also no tax for most). Still a screaming good deal.

You're are right that Apple will be introducing the Macbook Pros, maybe not on the 9th but soon. However I would be surprised to see them drop the base model's price much below $1799, and here you are getting a loaded system!

One other thing, this is the old 2.6Ghz processor, not the current one. Still should be beefy enough to chew through whatever you can throw at it. The only thing that could make this deal any hotter would be if this was the current year's model with the LED back-lit high-res display...

Super hot deal! I just called and placed my order, they are running out fast. Staff was really friendly. Mention DealMac and they also have a special for AppleCare for $249 as opposed to the normal $349, and also RAM upgrade from 2GB to 4GB is $100 vs $200 (still probably cheaper to do the upgrade yourself though).

I just called and ordered one, too... had to keep calling cuz I got operator error messages and their answering machine... got through on the 12th try. Super friendly staff, offered free shipping, and $100 off Apple Care ($249 instead of $349). I asked him how they can afford to sell it so cheap and he said 3 reasons: 1) The trackpad doesn't have the touch response (pinching, zooming, etc); 2) 200 GB HDD instead of 250; 3) 256 VRAM instead of 512. Everything else is upgraded, though - faster hard drive, processor, etc. Totally worth it! Plus, it's unlikely the new macbooks are coming out anytime before January.

macbook series need an upgrade. I want e-sata, a better display card, HDCP ready, and a lighter macbook.

I called the store and asked them the following. Are they correct in what they are saying?

"Is this a backlit LED display?"
"No"
"Is there a big difference between backlit and the previous model display, for an end user?"
"No"

I love the new trackpad, but for $1500 more, I am not sure if I need it. The newer model has 6GB shared Cache and the older model has 4GB. This 2GB reduction is not a big issue for me, since I wont be coding on this.
