There's a mistruth or mistake here. I purchased one after you had posted this. The receptionist and sales staff were still there, and work until 7pm Eastern.

Gotta clear it with the wife, eh?

It's all a tactic -- the "sold out" wolf-cry -- deters folks from calling in.
I'm in for one, maybe a few -- shipping next Monday!

Macbook Pro Special
We're sorry, but the Macbook Pro special deal has sold out.

I ordered around 4:30pm Thursday. It will ship on Friday, since I ordered the memory upgrade as well (for $100, which was $20 more from the cheapest source on Internet, so I thought I might as well let them do it)

Someone had a question about ATA or SATA - AS I mentioned on the previous posting of mine, it is SATA.

Edit - I just saw a deal on SD (expired though) for $7 memory from Fry's (after $30MIR). Oh well.

Deal looks to be dead from their website. If anyone has any luck getting another one reply to the thread so I can mark the thread un-dead.

Hey gang,

I was lucky enough to call in and get one yesterday. So, what are the options on this lappy over the std config?

Thanks!

Also the 200GB 7200RPM drive is normally a $50 option over the 250GB 5400RPM drive.

Hey y'all, we might want to reopen this thread....

Just got off the phone with Springboard - they're getting in a new shipment of similar (though not quite as pimped-out) MacBook Pros early next week, and are already taking preorders on these.

The specs on the two incoming models are similar to the original, but with slight variations as detailed below.

Model #1 ($1499):
2.4ghz Core2Duo
17" Hi-res display (1920x1200)
160gb 5400rpm
2gb RAM (upgradeable to 4gb for $100)
256mb video

Model #2 ($1599):
2.6ghz Core2Duo
17" normal-res display (1600x900)
200gb HD (?RPM)
2gb RAM (upgradeable to 4gb for $100)
256mb video

They're still throwing in free shipping, and will add 3yrs of AppleCare for $249.

I ordered Model #1 with 4gb RAM and AppleCare, so total was $1848 shipped with no tax (tax in PA only). Supposed to come in 9/9 and ship out same day.

Would've loved to get in on the original deal, but this is still pretty good, IMO.

Thanks for that! I have updated the first post with the two deals as you itemized above.

Hello - Small correction to the specifications on the model #2. It is configured with a 160 GB hard drive.

5400rpm - a big difference

Not a $300 difference though. In fact, I'd rather just buy my own $100 320GB 5400RPM drive with higher density platters (that uses less power and gives you more storage and more battery life) than pay $300 more for a 200GB 7200RPM drive.

yeah thats what i was thinking, its not worth the $300. if you try and configure it on apple's website, the hard drive upgrade is $100 from 5400 to 7200. the processor difference is bigger in price, but practically speaking 2.4 vs 2.6 shouldnt be too big of a difference.

As I stated in a previous post, you can buy Applecare off of eBay for as low as $200. If you want to spend an additional $50, I can send you my paypal address

Just ordered the model #1. CSR said there were 12 left of the model #1's, I think he said he was sold out of the #2s.
