I have one of these.

Kind of noisy, but the main problem is the USB plug has a sharp edge where it allows you to plug in another USB device. I always cut myself on that sharp edge.

Not a problem if your laptop is your desktop and/or if you like cutting yourself.

I bought one at Fry's B&M just last week when they were $5. My daughter says it doesn't do a very good job with her Lenovo X61. But then, that model runs a lot hotter than most notebooks.

Piece of crap. Broke in 5 minutes. See, the pad is made of very flexible plastic. As soon as I set down my laptop a bit too fast, the plastic flexed into the fan housing, causing 2 blades to break off the fan, thus rendering it out of balance, thus making this end up in the garbage.

Mine still works after 6 months or so, but that's because I stopped using it after I got my Antec for $5 AR from Fry's. The Antec is much better.
