Seems like a great deal on a media center PC. This is being advertised a "debranded" HP, which I assume means an HP unit that wasn't sold and had it's operating system removed so it could be resold at wholesale. Throw on a copy of XP Or Ubuntu and you've got a perfectly fast dual core internet/music/movie/game machine for around $200

BTW, debranded = refurbished.

As of 9/12/08 there are roughly 350 left in inventory per customer service.

According to a poster on SD who has this unit, it is actually a It appears to be the HP Pavilion Media Center a1610n.

Link to product on HP's site

You can download the original drivers direct from HP here.

Some people may receive a slightly different model. It contains the same case, CPU, 1GB memory, 250GB hard drive, etc..but uses an MSI motherboard instead of an Asus. This is likely the Pavillion a1467 model It uses slightly different drivers that can be found here.

A slower 3800+ version for $189.99 here.

It is cheaper than buying parts if you are happy with this config.

Pretty good for the price. Wish it's a HTPC

These PCs have BIOS marks removed, so no, the HP recovery disc won't work as the OS can only be restored on HP-marked computers
...
Better picture of Mobo.

I jump into this deal and ordered one. When I look back into the deal. It said this is refurbished and I don't want it. But I can not see any place I can cancel my order. When I called them, they said you can not cancel it as it has been on its way out. That's nonsense. It's only 5 to 10 mins after I submitted the order. On their website, there is even no cancel button. What's a gerk. Stay away from them. This is a website full of trap. Beware! Consider you have been warned.

this is a dual core processor, correct?

Newegg calls it "AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ Manchester 2.2GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 89W Dual-Core Processor"

I got one of these debranded PCs from Geeks a few weeks ago.

I liked the "no os" option because I wanted to load XP instead of getting Vista.

Finding the XP drivers was a bit challenging, but I did eventually find every one I needed, after finding accurate specs for the hardware I was trying to find the drivers for.

It's an astounding deal for a screaming fast machine. I don't regret it for a second, but I wouldn't suggest it unless you are just a bit geeky.

Edit: I added 2 gigs of memory and a video card.

To speak to their speed of shipping, I ordered at 2:30pm and they sent me shipment confirmation @ 6:06pm.

How do you get the $11 shipping? The least expensive option I see is $26. Maybe 'cause I'm in Maryland?

where does it say refurbished?

They only have a warehouse in California, so I guess the further away you go, the more expensive it gets. Make sure to go through the Live CashBack link to save $6+ on your purchase. That way shipping is only $20 for you

And to those wondering about it saying "refurbished", there is a good chance that these werent actually used by customers. When a machine is "debranded", all of the official manufacturer stickers and serial numbers must be removed. The hard drives also had to be wiped, so you won't be getting a computer in the official retail box. These had to be opened and tinkered with to remove the HP tags and wipe the hard drives clean. They were powered on and off at least once, so technically they can't be sold as "new" units. Even if they had very limited usage, they are still called refurbs.

I prefer refubished units, as they are more likely going to work vs. a minty fresh one out of China.
