Yes, you are correct, but not from that seller. The review you mention uses the name BuilderDepot and BIC, not Deerso which is who is processing this order. As I said, it is most likely a mistake but, since that particular seller has a very good feedback rating I thought it was worth a shot.

Maybe I get lucky, maybe I don't.....I still can't go to Home Depot or Lowes at 1:30 in the morning....LOL

Read the March 30th review from the seller's website. This mistake is months old. Evidently it has yet to be corrected. I am not going to bite.

Yep, be careful. Using these 'air cleaning' filters increases the static pressure in your system and can slow air flow across the coils and/or heat exchanger.

Your furnaces fan may automatically kick to a higher speed to maintain flow, which will increase your electric use. Whether its new and fancy enough to kick up or not, you're making the fan work harder and that may shorten its life.

Reduced air flow may result in a frozen coil or cracked heat exchanger.

A number of studies have shown that furnace filters are pretty ineffective in cleaning air. They dont run enough and the return registers are often in places that arent advantageous to picking up allergens. The vast majority of allergens are heavy and dont stay suspended in the air very long. You walk on the carpet, flop on the couch or bed, stuff poofs up and settles right back down again.

Theres something to be said for the furnace mounted add-on electronic cleaners (which unfortunately cost around $1000) coupled with a furnace with a variable speed fan that runs all the time on low speed, usually at around 100 watts of electricity usage. Those are good at removing small particles that can stay suspended in the air and cause problems for allergy sufferers or asthmatics.

Bottom line is that these filters are expensive, the very best of them have mediocre air flow, and they really arent doing you a whole lot of good.

Whenever these 3M filter threads come up, there will be people bashing it...

Anyway, heres one opinion FOR it. After installation in 2 older homes in Toronto (similar climate to MI/IL/upper NY for those of you not "worldly" , I can say that the dust is noticably less. Note that these homes were very old and dusty, and because the weather is either too hot or too cold or too buggy, the windows are generally kept shut.

I would agree that if you have carpet, the effects are lessen. However, for ~$12 every 2 months, its not a bad deal.

I have to strongly emphasize that you are suppose to change the filter every 1-3 months! 3M advertise that the filter is good for "up to 3 months". However, depending on your usage, it may need changing at 1 month! If you keep it on for a year like the cheap (see through) filters, you'll probably damage your furnace...

Actually, any air that is being circulated through the ventilation system needs to be filtered, whether AC in the summer, or heat in winter.

You can get two for about $25 at Costco these days.

I received my filters today. As I suspected, only got 2, not 12, but when I called the company to complain, they refunded all of my shipping and gave me the second filter free. So, I got 2 filters for $16.....Not too bad !!
