I just got the Panasonic 50" Plasma for my in-laws but it was between this Samsung or the Panasonic, the Panny was just cheaper when I had to order my set. I think that both sets are very nice. And as far as this set being 720P it has a very nice pic and if you do some research I think you will find that 1080P is not necessary for most people especially when sitting a certain distance from the TV and the fact that only certain devices like Blu-Ray HD DVDs. Also to get 1080P on a 50" Plasma would be about $500 more.

Figure something like this would be posted by a DrSphincter since he truly is an "a-hole".

I have to say that I think the 699 for the 42 inch was a better deal. I can't justify an extra $300 for eight inches (insert joke here). If I were going to go 50 inches, I'd probably go 1080p.

... both are good deals for their respective sizes. The 50" might be the slightly better deal right now, given the free shipping as well.

Samsung makes horrible looking plasma tvs. Their LCD TVs have better image quality than their plasmas.

if it was 1080p, then i would consider this a hot deal. since its 720p, luke warm. good deal for first time plasma buyers. nuff said

Frys does have the 1080 Panny 40" plasma for $999 in todays ad(in Seattle). A little smaller but looks awsome.
They also have the 46 for $1299 and 50 for $1499.
