No AC?? Must add that...love disposable cars that run forever.

Drive 'em till they die...that is my motto.

2005 seems to be their 'break through' year on getting major mechanical issues resolved.

I wouldn't go back more than 5 years. The '07 year was a watershed for the Elantra in terms of gas mileage and quality. Not sure of other models. The quality in terms of reliability and problems of my '07 Elantra so far is comparable to my older Accord and my Infiniti G35 (though the G35 is a COMPLETELY different car that an Elantra cannot be compared to in any other regard).

I can attest to that. I drove an 02 Elantra that was very troubleprone. My sister drove an 04 that was similiarly cursed. However my mother drives an 07 that she loves. Time will tell, however.

What is so great about their warranty? Chrysler (dodge, jeep) offer a lifetime warranty on powertrain (Engine, transmission...)

Are you kidding me??? Crysler (dodge, jeep) is looking for the gov't to bail them out. shoot, even their parent company (Daimler) decided they didn't want them anymore. They had to give lifetime warranty to even sell any vehicles because their brand was shot to hell with all tranny probs and other issues. This was the only way they could sell cars.

Hyundai on the other hand is great quality with a great warranty...the warranty with a hyundai is a piece of mind; the warranty with crysler is in apology for their malfunctions, defects and break downs.

That is correct. Hyundai will be arounf for a long time...who knows when Chrysler will fold!

Are you still living in 1995? Thanks for saying the exact opposite of what many are saying about Hyundai's progress over the years.

I guess, you have not tried to sell any Hyundai car. I have not traded in but my Accent (175K miles with no major issue vs 225K on Sentra with little more issue but still similar experience) could not sell at even trade in value. Had to dump for 750 dollars and the guy drove it another 25k so 200K and traded in for RAV4 and you know what the dealer would have done with RAV buyer. It is true that Hyundai has cheap feeling, I bought a Corolla way more expensive than I would have got Elantra for but image was also the issue.

Anyone wants to keep the car and does not care about status gets the top bang for buck with Hyundai. Hyundai has too much negative reputation but is as good as Honda, and Honda is Sony of auto industry.

I bought Honda Pilot which I would not have, had there been any option available with Hyundai in 2005 Nov. No decent chick will sit in Hyundai, their brain is wired backward so they will not think 10 years ahead which Hyundai with 10 year warranty and a chick who sits in Hyundai is far sure smarter than you and you know what I mean now.

You may have a point about Hyundai's resale value (though I believe that is changing as well), but the things about "decent" girls is trash. If there is a girl out there who refuses to see me because I drive a Hyundai, well, she's probably not the type of person that's seeing me for me. Therefore, she can take a hike.

Wrong! Take her for a ride first. Then ditch her somewhere and tell her go take a hike.

Even prostitutes will probably look at you lowly in a Hyundai.

There's no reason to discontinue the long warranty, I doubt it's costing them much. I have a 2001 Accent, with 145K miles and never had any problems other than normal wear & tear. Asd much as I want to get a newer car it seems I just can't give this one up.

Cool maybe they won't expect as much money if I roll up in a Hyundai, versus a Benz.

I got in on the Genesis extended test drive. Got an 8 cyl model for 6 days plus $200 gas allowance.

The car is a solid deal for its class. 385 HP moves it along at a pretty good clip. Handles well for a large sedan. The ride is a bit harsh over poor road surface, but other than that it's a great ride.

The creature comforts, amenities, materials, design, fit & finish are up there with Lexus.

We're taking off on a 2 day cruise up the coast tomorrow and I'm looking forward to driving the crap out of it.

There's no msrp sticker on the car, but it has all the options (which I understand is just one - the "tech" w nav, premium stereo etc.) and so equipped it lists for around $43k. If you're in the luxo-sedan market, I would certainly take a serious look at the Genesis.

At least Hyundai got the idea that they shouldn't put that ugly emblem on the front of the Genesis, I will give them credit. However they should spin off to another division if they are serious of trying to attract buyers of low end luxury cars instead of keeping it under the Hyundai brand.

Maybe - but that's a pretty pricey route in a crowded market.

Looks like their strategy is to use price to push into the room and go from there. They probably figure that everyone's going to know it's a Hyundai anyway, and that so far that brand's got a pretty good level of acceptance.

But then again, in a few months there might be a glut of available dealers looking for a new brand to slap on their vacant showrooms.

Mark my words, and I'm no Hyundai basher:

Hyundai couldn't have picked a worse time to unveil the Genesis, and their 'cost saving' move of not setting up a different dealer network and brand name will end up being their great undoing.

I've driven the Genesis, and while it's okay, it is not the equal of the proclaimed benchmarks. The only areas it meets those lofty goals, specifically, is in noise levels and content ('goodies').

But for the right price, anything can sell. Don't be surprised to see heavy incentives on the Genesis once the 'honeymoon' period is over and they start importing them in heavier volume.

I haven't spent a lot of time in BMWs, but have enough in Lexus and MBs, from my view it's close enough to both in the areas that 90% of the market is focused on when behind the wheel. That is, strip of the brand marks and I doubt most people would be able to ID the Genesis as a Hyundai.

There are 3 main areas that are somewhat unknown, and one that's obvious. Dealer network/support, durability, and resale are unknown, at least to me. That last problem area is prestige. No doubt the Genesis is not going to impress the neighbors as much as the competition. However, so far I've had 2 neighbors come over and check it out, and one delivery person who walked over thinking it was a new Lexus.

yeah, bad timing on the v8, though gas prices are coming down now, slightly, or is that the new norm now?

As long as I'm impressed, the buck stops there

Beware this ad, however. Anytime you see a stock number next to a car ad, just trust me, there are dealership games afoot.

Also, there are two Accents advertised, one just under 14k, and the tad under 10k one - let me just say that the under 10k one is a stripper as in 'old school.'

Right now, you can get an Elantra for around 13.5k, which is a lot more car for the money, and has proven reliable according to Consumer Reports. It also gets nearly as good fuel economy as the Accent.

Didn't mean to TC, OP.

Those that bought Elantra for $13K-14K, please specific if it is GLS or Se, manual or auto, options?
I'd like to buy one--- they only have GLS available now, with auto plus the $1750 package.
What would be a good price for this? Thanks!
