For all the new Mio owners. Yes, you can forage for files and try various hacks to get the latest and greatest maps and software

OR

you can ask Mio nicely and they will send you a DVD with the lastest maps and software free of charge.

1. Call Mio - 1-866-646-4477. I chose the pre-sales support option.

2. Explain that you recently purchased a Mio gps and were disappointed to learn that the maps on your NEW gps were almost 3-years old (most units are shipping w/2006 maps). Tell them you didn't think that was fair and ask them if something can be done.

3. The rep will ask for:

Your name
Your address
Your Mio Model and its serial number
Your phone number
The date and place of purchase

before explaining that they are requesting that you be sent 2008 maps and software at no charge(retail value $79.95 + $12.00 S&H) and give you a case number.

Warning: Only for actual MIO buyers - Some callers are being asked to fax their original invoice showing date of purchase.

Shamelessly stolen from somewhere else. Bravo Zulu to bpsamant.

don't know why the red,

great idea op, sometimes the nice direct approach works. Probably easier than getting it from a torrent site anyway

Let us know when you get it, when I ordered a mio map update dvd it took months to get.

Worth a green, although my new Mio C230 came with Jan 07 maps. About 1 1/2 years old. I was confused because I thought they would be much older from what people were saying.

this can be sold on eBay for profit, even $1 would be profit

green for the deal... red for the attitude.

I believe this "update" will not give your much. Certainly not TTS, not 2007.07 maps with 12 mil POI. If you search gpspassion, you will see what people think about this update.

By the way, where do you read you will get 2008 maps?

Map for c320 need to fit into 1GB build-in ram, which means it's POI is very limited. Not a deal for a user of 12M PIO like me.

JimsEmptyWallet said: ...where do you read you will get 2008 maps?

The rep said 2008 maps. He may have been mistaken - map years vary by model and country - but it's free. If hacked features are your thing this isn't for you, but if you want the newest official maps, don't feel comfortable hacking or were thinking about shelling out $79.95 for the DVD anyway this rocks.

LOL. Sounds like someone couldn't figure it out and decided to call Mio instead, "forage for files", I like that. Various hacks????????
Hacking the Mio C320 is very simple, you need two things

1. Hacked mio software here
2. And the maps, here

Follow the guide and you will have the BEST maps with 12 million POI's.

MioPocket, which unlocks your Mio is not even necessary to do this. It would probably take less time and effort to do the map hack upgrade then call Mio and wait for a DOWNGRADE. I wasn't going to say anything but your post sounds like its belittling the efforts of everyone on this board who took the time to do this.
For everyone who foraged and tried various hacks, they will have a better gps unit then you will.

Thanks for the links BabersWallet!! Now, can someone please point a link to 12M POI and also if they will work on C320? Whatever I found was only for C230.

Thanks.

Thanks for the links, some of my maps got corrupted somehow, and I was able to patch them up by downloading them from that site.

i believe most c320 users have already loaded their baby with TomTom7, iGO8, Garmin XT, etc. who cares Mio2008......

So I have a over 2 year old c310x. I'm guessing I can not update the maps on this anymore since the 2007 update I bought at Circuit City for $15. I'm looking here.

Link

What's odd is that you'd think the DVD or description for the other 2 would say a month and year on it or something so you know if it's new or a year old. The c310x says May 2007 but the other 2 you only see a year on the copyright info.

This is my first and only GPS and it's great for me but it does have quite a few mistakes on it like roads that were changed 10 years ago are not changed. The development I live in has 1 entrance, it's like a big oval and was built from like 2002-2005. When I got the c310x it was not in there at all. I put the 2007 update on and now it's there but the entrance is at the other end..weird.

Correct me if I am wrong...Are these maps different from the 2008 Maps??? I was able to install these maps with the help of c.r.a.c.k.e.d license.db file without a problem...

Any updates on C310X maps?

FWIW, I think 12mil POI might be overrated. Where did these files come from? Who added these POIs?

My buddy (who bought 310 2 yrs back, has original maps) and I (bought 320 from Staples deal last month, deployed the 12 mil POI maps) spent about 30 min comparing POIs between the two devices. We looked for stores like CC, BB, TGIF, Applebees, Post Office, Target, PF Chang's etc in NYC area. There was hardly any difference between the two. We decided that my friend could live without the upgrade afterall.

Just my $0.02.

There is a huge difference in file size...My stock NJ map was about 13.4MB(Oct 2006) and when I downloaded the premium map (Jan 2007)..it was almost 32MB...wow... huge difference in a gap of 3 months for a release...

Try comparing POIs in a newer area (developed in last one year). POIs in older, established area may remain same for a long time.

The maps linked above work on the C310x as well, go get em!

Have no idea what new developments took place in NYC in the last few years. But if you check SoCal area, you will see hugh diffs.

Do you have to download each map? I tried to download the Parent folder but it came up Forbidden.
also, when I try to open, it comes up dots and dashes. Do I have to save target as with a right click?
thanks

Yes, you have to save each map. This makes things easier for if you want to replace just one map.

You right click on one of the map files, and save as. Once the file is saved you either put directly on Mio's flash replacing the map on the device or put it on a sd card in the following folder /MioMap/Maps/

thank you

Just called Mio and asked what were the latest maps for the Mio C320 and the lady said 2007.07.

BabersWallet said: Just called Mio and asked what were the latest maps for the Mio C320 and the lady said 2007.07.

Does it mean 2007.07 is the 2008 maps??...then that's better than Jan 2007 ...

Guys, I just confirmed it with TWO Mio operators. The disc you will receive is the 2007.7 maps which are available for FREE on the link I provided earlier.

Thanks, just called and they said they would forward the request. Hope it comes through.

Nice for a casual user, but if you really want to take advantage of the Mio you'll want Igo 8. There's maps out there from January of 2008 for one thing, and a nicer user interface to boot. Not very hard at all to upgrade and the Mio is nearly impossible to brick. The update cd in the box will restore it even if you hose everything.

I was able to find the iGo 2008 North America maps for my hacked Mio C520. They seem to work fine and I like the interface. However, based on other hacking forums, I read that the iGO 2008 does NOT have any North American PIOs. I also confirmed this on my unit (no PIOs show up). Have you been able to find POIs for North America? TIA!

Yes I did get the poi's to show up and work. You're probably running the older igo8.exe. Get the new one and you'll see them.

And Yes, you can put updated/bigger/more maps on an sd card if you're running Miomap.

Skipping 243 Messages...

I can't get anything to connect with Vista....IPhone, mp3 players.

I can get SD cards to connect through a reader, though. Glad I still
have a couple machines on XP.
