Yes yes, more cache, but more cache is more heat and this drive is designed quite the opposite.

I've run benchmarks on them and, quite frankly, they're still great all the way out to the edge of the spindle. I'll be replacing all my WD 500 AAKs's with these.

I own 3 WD Green drives and love them- can't hear'em at all.

edit: OK, since I'm picking up red, let me explain: When you have two drives and one has MORE ram, that extra RAM must emit more heat. Thus, having green drive with more ram in it would mean: More Heat.

Not usually. Heat is more a function of angular momentum. Before some one posts claiming that these are 5400 rpm drive here is an evaluation from a reputable that specializes in professional gear 3D Professor like workstations and servers. They have their own spec.org registration which none of the popular sites have. Interestingly this drive is faster than or a dead heat with the 32gb Seagate in professional benchmarks. By that I mean benchmarks developed by IEEE and ASTM through spec.org. Good find OP.

I was looking at an SSD review the otherday and was surprised to see that when it comes to unzipping/unraring applications these drives are pretty much the fastest out their, very strange anomaly, but yet another reason why these are awesome storage drives. At these prices I may replace my 8 drive 400gb ide raid with 4 of these which would probably be something like 40 watts to 10 watts so would pay for itself fairly quickly probably.

In a hardware raid the size of the cache doesn't matter either so that doesn't effect me at all.

just remember to use WDTLER to decrease the recovery time of the disk and avoiding it being dropped off the RAID.

was waiting for the deal on this drive for some time after Buy.com ended their promo. Now with a free SATA cable it's even better. thanks!
