Hey, OP, thank you for taking the time to post. May be a good deal for some heavy users of AA batteries, but I'm taking a pass, and here's why. Not to threadcrap, but...
--500 batteries is an awful lot to use up before they go dead or leak.
--These are "heavy duty", which usually means carbon-zinc chemistry, which means ~half the power of an alkaline.
--if you have a Fry's nearby, they'll occasionally (several times a year) have their own "Ultralast" brand on sale at this same price point (10 cents each), but in a 100-pack. The Ultralast batteries are alkaline.
--I've also seen Fry's sell 4-packs of their Ultralast batteries for 49 cents. Yes, I know this is a bit more at 12.25 cents per battery, but when they have the 4-packs on sale, they usually have a choice of AA or AAA sizes.
--it probably goes without saying, but the "Polaroid" name brand on these is meaningless. They weren't made by Polaroid, they don't use Polaroid technology...the Polaroid company is on its last legs financially and is now using its name (one of its last remaining assets) to "brand" generic items and resell.
How often do the Fry's Ultralasts go on sale? I can't say. I still have an untouched 100-pack sitting beside me, so (for me at least), they go on sale often enough.
They'll probably put them on before/during the holidays a couple of times.
If you're in desperate need of a lot of AA batteries, then this deal is fine, but if you're not in a big hurry and have a Fry's nearby, then waiting for their next 10 cent offer will get you an even better deal.
