I bought one of these last week at the Apple Store. Absolutely the best iPod I've owned to date and completely fulfilled my desire for an iPhone which I can't have because of work.
I bought mine from Amazon on Sept 10. I requested a refund for the difference and was denied. Amazon changed their refund policy for orders after Sept 1, so no more refunds on price drops:
Hello from Amazon.com. Thanks for writing to us about the recent price change on "Apple iPod nano 16 GB Silver (4th Generation)". I understand you bought this item from us just recently at a different price. Unfortunately, we cannot extend a refund to you for the difference between the original price and the lower price you saw posted on our website. While we don't always beat the best available price on every product, we do offer deep discounts on many thousands of items. From time to time, prices on some items will change due to special offers from suppliers and manufacturers or our inventory and sales volumes. When we can offer a lower price for new purchases we will, but we cannot extend these discounts to completed orders. Only orders placed before September 1, 2008 are eligible for a price difference refund under the Post-Order Price Guarantee policy. As of September 1, 2008 we are no longer offering discounts if prices change on our website after you make a purchase. I hope you'll be able to take advantage of the many discounts we offer on your next visit to our store. Please let us know if this e-mail resolved your question:

That is true.
But on the plus side, you will receive your iPod 10 days earlier. $1/day to use an iPod Touch doesn't sound too bad.

Yes, on this purchase it's not that big of a deal but on other more expensive items I am really not liking this change in policy. One reason why I buy so much stuff from Amazon is because I don't have to worry about waiting for a lower price...now I will wait a little bit & shop around a bit more before buying, Amazon is no longer an automatic for me.
Worked for me since mine hadn't shipped yet. Ordered on the 14th and wont ship until 22nd. Got the refund on my account already.

Yes, my daughter got hers delivered this week so I guess it's not even worth asking for a price adjustment. That's what I get for ordering from Amazon right away and I have learned my lesson. Who would have expected them to drop their price on an item that they don't even have in stock at the moment (32gb was 8-9 days when I checked earlier). If it was me, I'd send it back and order again at the new price, but this was bought with some money from an Amazon GC ($150), so we'd have to return, wait for the GC to get credited back, then buy again, or run the risk of being stuck with the GC funds.
I may email them anyway to let them know my displeasure, even if I won't get the money back.

They didn't have them in stock until the 12th and my daughter did not get hers until Thursday the 18th. That's *2* days use for the $20 (the 32gb went down by $20).

But there will probably be a delay for this batch too.

Isn't it cheaper at onsale.com after 2% FatCash and Free Shipping Rebate? It also has free engraving. And I often see 3% off coupon on iPod from other web sites.

Availability: Place your order today and be one of the first to receive this product when it arrives!
Also has the hassle of a MIR....never bought anything from onsale.com, so don't know how well that would work out. I'd probably save 2$ but I get 3 times the points using my Amazon visa....so probably not worth the headache for me.
I had ordered mine using Apple.com because it ships within 24 hrs and I didn't want to wait until the unknown =)
