Alright, quick question to the dish gurus- I don't have an HDTV, I have two very nice tubes that I'm fine with. But I hear the HD DVR (VIP722) is a lot better than the SD DVR (DVR 625). If you get the HD DVR with a regular non HD programming pack, do you absolutely have to pay the "HD Access Fee"? Any way around it?

Called DirecTv (who I am currently with) about this Dish Network deal and DirecTv is giving me a free HD receiver upgrade for my bedroom (had an old HD receiver in there) plus Starz and HBO free for 3 months and Cinemax for 6 months. Been with them for 6 years and love DirecTv but would have switched if they hadn't made me the offer that they did. Also helps that I got a very nice rep who was well informed and spoke English well.

I was not on contract with DishNoetworks right now. I called to cancel my service, the retention CR could offer $10 credit for the next 10 months and either free 622 receiver or 722 receiver for $75. I took 722 receiver for $75. I asked her to waive $39.99 for external harddisk access she declained. I did not take that option for now. This is with 24 months commitment.

Man, these are some terrible deals I've been seeing... I'm about to pull the trigger on Comcast because Dish Network refuses to give me a good deal. I'm going to be getting phone, 12mbps internet + HD channels for $117 AND $225 Cash Back.

Can't beat that!

Then a few months later (6 months, ill come back to Dish Network if they are willing to give me a hot deal).

I don't see why they would go to the hassle of having to lose a customer, bring another installer over, and so forth... weird.

Where did you get a deal on 12mb comcast, called for months and was told 0 promos with blast.

I just called and said "Cancel" at the automated machine. Told the guy I wanted to cancel as I can't afford the service. He offered me $12/mo off for the next 12 months. I accepted. Very easy. No mention of a contract.

It is the HD triple play deal (not just internet).

Why are we talking about Comcast in a Dish Network deal post?

In any case, retention offers from Comcast (or Dish, or any company) are usually very variable. I threatened to cancel my Comcast account (I dumped cable a long time ago for Dish and have the basic cable only because its still cheaper w/ the discount on high speed) and they said 'go ahead'.. I was going to switch to DSL only to find out there's no DSL in my area, no FIOS, so I'm stuck with Comcast if I want ANY high speed internet (I have a Sprint data card which is fine for browsing but not stuff like PS3, etc).

On the flip side I've been with Dish for over a year and my price has not changed at all. I've had some problems with their Indian customer support but the Executive Office literally resolved these issues within an hour of contacting them.

The $5 phone fee was never waived for me -- and it was just recently they enabled the Ethernet port on the receivers. So I'm picking up a couple of cheap routers to use as wireless adapters so I can connect them to my network.

Dish has a referral deal that any current Dish customer can refer you to.
Free Activation
$80 credit on first bill
Free HBO and Starz for 3 months
Cinemax for a year for 1 cent
It also says packages now starting at $24.99 a month now...

In return the referrer gets $50 over 5 months and 5 PPV credits. I got lucky with my Dish installer, he spent over 6 hours at my house and it still cost $0 for both a 622 and 222 receiver. Did a good job, no problems so far.

Without 2 year contract:
1) you need to pay $99 extra.
2) Starz/HBO, Cinemax free for 3 months is not there as well.
Combine 1) and 2) and it becomes deal breaker for me as i do not want to commit for 2 yrs.
Also, to get local channels abc/cbs etc $5 more.
So very basic HD package becomes $30/ month+ $99(one time) + No free HBO/Cinemax offer.
Will wait for Verizon Fios to show up in the area.

Anyways thanks OP!!!

I'd like to ditch comcast and signup for Dishnetwork but don't want a 24-month committment.

Is there anyway I can signup for Dishnetowrk without the 24 Month committment and not have to pay the $99 activation and installation fee> Do I need to buy the dish seperately in that case?
Thanks in advance.
