Denon 889 (Retail version of the Denon 2309ci) is in the computers at Circuit City for $499.99! They did not have it in stock at my local Circuit City (Scottsdale Rd/101 Freeway in Scottsdale, AZ) but they did order me one for home delivery for the $499.99 price plus tax. I just had the guy check to see if they had any in stock and they did not. The computer showed the $499.99 price, I asked him if he could order me one for that and he did just that! It is on a FedEx Ground truck heading my way as we speak for delivery Friday.

The web site price is $799.99, this MUST be ordered in store to get the $499.99 price. I have heard reports from a few others on AVS Forum that if it is in stock at your local CC they will have it at the $499.99 price! Lowest price I have seen on the 2309ci/889 model is $649 from Amazon and is backordered.

For those that don't know, this is one incredible AV Receiver! It has 100W x 7 channels, 4 HDMI inputs, Audyssey Dynamic Volume control (Means you get the same volume level ALL the time no matter what source you are using! Great for blaring commercials and when you switch from HD to SD sources!) Dolby True HD and DTS HD Sound Processing, along with a ton of other great features. This is the newest model from Denon and has to be a price mistake at CC!

How does this receiver compared to Denon AVR 1909? It seems that this one and the 1909 are being sold at the the same price. In fact the 1909 (J&R) is a bit less expensive - free shipping and no tax in some cases

This is the retail version of the 2309 and is a much more full featured receiver than the 1909ci.

Read the first post, you need to order it IN STORE for delivery to get the $499.99 price. The web site showed $799 when I ordered it in store for $499.99.

How does this compare to the Onkyo 805?

Once you get yours hooked up, can you post about how well the Dynamic Volume control works. I just read the full thread at AVS and only found one person saying anything about it and it didn't really seem to make a major difference to him.

My wife complains about the volume shifting all the time. Also according to the AVS users, this Denon doesn't seem to do very much video processing and can't overlay any OSD on HDMI inputs. My current receiver can at least overlay some info on 720p and lower resolutions.

I'm probably going to skip this deal and wait for any Onkyo or HK deal down the road.

This one does not have THX EX ULTRA 2 system while the ONKYO has it. So I think movies with THX wont sound as good as it would be on Onkyo 805. For example. ICE AGE.
I believe ONKYO is best bang for the buck in terms of sound quality and available essential features.

I saw the Dynamic Volume feature demoed at the CEDIA (Home Theater) Show last month in Denver. It helps in two practical situations: when commercials blare at you or you get some crazy action sequence in a movie that forces you to scramble trying to turn the volume down because of neighbors, kids, etc. It definitely works.

I just picked one up in-store (SoCal), $499 - 8% AAA coupon. Last years AVR888 is $499 online, maybe that's where the price came from... Thanks for the heads-up!

Well if you buy form B & H which is BIIIIIG electronics dealre in NYC, then you can save another 20 bucks.
$580 with free shipping

Also MS CashBack is 2% for B & H, so that brings down the final price to $568.

So it is just just $68 expensive than Denon.

confirmed. went to customer service and they ordered it from the warehouse. 499 + tax. good deal OP!
I'm not sure yet I'm going to keep it as I was looking at the Pioneer VSX-1018... Probably a price mistake since the former generation, AVR888 is also on sale at 499...

It's the commercials blaring and flipping between channels that drives me nuts.

Special ordered one this evening. The guy laughed and said it was definitely a price mistake (the 888 (last generation) is on sale for $499, so someone must have keyed that in for the 889 price as well), but said since I was ordering it now at that price it should still go through. They weren't expecting delivery of any new ones until late next week at the earliest, but I can wait. This is an outstanding receiver. I was considering getting the step down (AVR-1909) but since this is now the exact same price you can get that one on sale for, its a no-brainer.

And for whoever said this is somehow inferior because it doesn't do THX Ultra II, you need to read up more on this kind of stuff. Whether a receiver is THX or not has zero bearing on how good it is, and there are no DVDs or Blu-Rays that have "THX" audio that can somehow only be heard by a THX receiver. Its basically just a marketing gimick

How does the Ford Focus Coupe compare to the Mustang GT? I can get the Focus cheaper than the Mustang.

You know what, I also found out that I can get a Dell laptop with a Celeron processor and a 120gb hard drive cheaper than a Core2Duo with a 250gb drive - which do you think might be better? I just don't know.

Wait, I have an idea - rather than take 60 seconds to type out an inquiry here, it might be possible to take 30 seconds to go to www.denon.com and see if Denon has the genius to list all of its receivers and maybe include enough information that someone visiting the website could compare two of those receiver models.
