I had 2 834B routers before. It just died on me after 2-3 months of use. That maybe the reasons why they're selling at this price. |

yes it does, but i need encryption for my downloading needs (if you know what i mean). As sfjava suggested, try throwing a static ip on your computer and see if encryption works then. Also, have you tried dd-wrt? How about drivers for your wireless card (are they the latest?). I would never condone using encryption on a wireless connection... just checking to see if the two work together at all |

Went to pickup the 834B this morning and they said they "couldnt 'find' it". Then they said they "never had it" (inventory showed 2 in stock) and the system must be in error. Finally they showed me the 614NAR's in brown cardboard boxes. After about 1/2 hour I went around and FOUND ONE without their help! I paid my way out and smiled all the way home! Now gotta set it up this week. Thanks OP! |

Picked up two. Flashed them with dd-wrt. Set up one as main router, the other in client bridge mode for my htpc. Tested downloading over 700mb data with bittorrent. No problem so far. Thanks OP. |

Is this now dead? I can see the router but when I add to the cart it gives me this message after completing the billing information etc... To allow all Fry's Outpost customers to take advantage of our great prices, We may limit the quantity of an item a customer can purchase during a promotional period. The product(s) you have ordered are subject to such a limit. Our records show that your household has already reached the limit for the specified item(s). Click the 'modified?' link to see more details I order 1 and then it changes to 0... |

Those who buy this might want to run it on the stock firmware for 30 days just to see if they can get any problems to arise, or the router to die. I'm assuming once you put dd-wrt on it you void the warranty. |

I order 1 and then it changes to 0... I think that to allow all Fry's Outpost customers to take advantage of their great prices, they might have limited the quantity of the item you tried to purchase during the promotional period. The product you tried to order is subject to such a limit. Their records probably showed that your household had already reached the limit for the specified item. You should try clicking 'modified?' to see more details. The same thing happened to me when trying to order a second one. |

You could just flash "official" netgear firmware back on it if you have problems. |

The same thing happened to me when trying to order a second one. The weird thing is that I tried to order but couldn't as it said there was a problem to verify my cc details so it didn't go through. I'll try again - would like to pick one of these up to wirelessly connect my Xbox running XBMC - and this could be a nice cheap method |

My wife is going to kill me (we just bought a Wireless-N router within the past month or two, plus we are in the process of trying to clean out the garage and get rid of junk), but I couldn't resist this. |

I have the WNR834B version 1 and it's been running smoothly for over 2 years now using the stock firmware. I tried to flash it with DD-WRT using the tftp method in Vista but the cmd prompted me that "tftp" is not a valid command? Anyone knows of another way of flashing it using a different method? It's so much easier using the GUI method when upgrading Netgear's own firmwares or restoring back to previous settings. Overall, I love this router for it's stability and long range. I would get another one without hesitation. |

famewolf said:inspiron8xxx said:it is a dd-wrt compatible N-router, but wont be a good one. it seems current dd-wrt version is kinda buggy for this router.
as to running dd-wrt, I would recommend Linksys and buffalo since dd-wrt has been developed and improved for these 2 brands for longs, especially, linksys.
I wonder if any of yall actually read the dd-wrt page posted in the first couple of posts for this router.....
"The Netgear WNR834Bv2 is now fully supported as of 3rd July 2008. Thanks to Eko, Brainslayer, etc. for their superb work in getting this router supported.
These (slightly modified) instructions were first posted by sparkie HERE. Read that complete thread for the hairy details on getting this device fully supported, if you are so interested or suffer from insomnia.
Step 1: Download the mini version of DD-WRT version 24, build 9856, new driver in the dot CHK format HERE."
" * DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLASH ANY BUILDS EARLIER THAN 9856 DATED 3RD JULY 2008, or you risk bricking your router. Some of the v24 release candidate 7s worked with minor bugs. But the first final v24 bricked the router for some users as a result of a problem with JFFS.
* NEWD = New Drivers; VINT = Vintage"
Summary: Fully supported with latest firmware. Just received mine about an hour ago. Uploaded DD-WRT build 9856 then 10431. Works great so far as a wireless bridge! Tough to beat at $25.
