I received mine but it's already busted during delivery. Some internal parts were loose and I had to return it for an exchange. |

Hey guys, this update is for anybody who may have received a WRN834b v1 and wants to upgrade to dd-wrt. Firstly, credit goes to pp from dd-wrt forum. I did all of the following using Internet Explorer 6 (sometimes Firefox is picky): 1. Go here to register with Sveasoft. 2. Go here to get Talisman firmware. 3. Type in the MAC id located on the back of your router 4. Download Talisman v1.3.1 5. Download dd-wrt.v24-9856_NEWD_mini.bin from here 6. Download dd-wrt.v24-9856_NEWD_std.bin from here 7. Using Netgear's stock firmware upgrade tool load the Talisman image. 8. Login to Talisman (192.168.1.1, default login/pass is admin/admin) 9. Using Talisman's firmware upgrade tool load the dd-wrt-9856-NEWD_mini.bin image. 10. Login to dd-wrt (192.168.1.1, default login/pass is root/admin) 11. Using dd-wrt's firmware upgrade tool load the dd-wrt-9856-NEWD_std.bin image. 12. Enjoy. I haven't really tested the long-term stability or functionality of this setup yet but it seems OK so far. |

Got two V2s and promptly shoved in the 9856 chk file, then updated to 10431 from the svn repository. Works like a charm! |

Dammit. I refreshed the page to see if it was still in stock, and ... THEY REMOVED ALL REFERENCES TO V2.0 IN THE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION. Not a good sign. |

Not a good sign. It's only a few extra steps to get dd-wrt onto a v1...I don't see what the big deal is.

I flashed one of the two routers I got. Only problem is it appears WDS with WPA is busted in the newer versions of DD-WRT which I have to use with the Netgear. I was using WDS with two Buffalo routers (v24 RC5). One of them died so while it is being RMA'ed I picked up these. I could not establish a WDS node between the remaining Buffalo and the Netgear. They showed up in each others status as a WDS connection but no traffic went across. I am going to flash the other Netgear and I hope that fixes it. |

Turn it into a bridge repeater so that it bridges wireless as well as wired connections. |

My Motorola WR850Gv2 and Linksys WRT54Gv2 will do a WDS with WPA-AES enabled. I wouldn't have it any other way. My whole point of picking up a few of these was to set up a WDS network. |

@ VirtuaL I got it working. My Buffalo would not work with the Netgear in WDS mode with either v24 RC5 or v24 SP1. However upgrading to the EKO TNG NEWD version referenced earlier in this thread got WDS to work. That said WDS does seem more "touchy" than before. For example, once I upgraded and configured my Buffalo as the "client" WDS node, I had to reboot the Netgear which is the "host" WDS node before any traffic would go across, this despite the fact both nodes where showin up in each other's wireless status section as a WDS node. And when I went to move the Buffalo and unplugged it, I had to again reboot the Netgear. I did not have to do that previously with v24 RC5 and the Buffalo(s), @Typo I was going to go to a bridge repeater if all else failed however I have read that there are issues since all devices hung off of repeater will have the same mac address (that of the repeater) which in essence means it is not really a bridge in the purest network sense of the term. And for wired clients I have already wired my house for gigabit so wireless is purely for mobile devices. However that is still my backup plan if WDS give me problems going forward. On other observation the Netgear seems to be a weaker transmitter than either of my Buffalos (or is that Buffalo) despite DD-WRT showing a higher transmit power. Assuming I get a replacement from Buffalo for my dead WHR-HP-G54, I am going to go back for that as my primary router. |

You can up the transmit power from 70 to 84. |

I tried doing in store pickup, and got a email saying they did not have the item, even though the site states other wise. So I had to order online. |

I just got the WRN834b v2. Flashed with DD-WRT lite... Holy crap I cant use xbox live anymore! Lag is amazing. So far, I've forwarded necessary ports to a static ip on my 360. Also have set it to a DMZ. Tried QOS, which did nothing. Anyone else having issues with this router and the 360? |

I got mine to work with my Xboxes, but I did experience that serious lag when I directly hooked up my computer to this router as a bridge. The setting that "fixed" this was changing the Wireless Network Mode (Wireless - Basic Settings) to "B-Only". I don't understand why this worked, since my other router (the access point) is a wireless-G (DI-624) one, but it decreased the lag. Give it a shot and see if that works for you. |

No ones has talked about speeds in here. Anyone getting decent speeds on this think. Ive had a couple in the past...flashed or not the speeds we GARBAGE. Slower than G most of the times. |

The 360 lag is probably due to the 3 (or 2) antennas. Sure the speed might be faster with the buffer but for immediate pings it will be slower. This will probably happen for all wireless N routers. |

Slower than G most of the times. Transferring files was a bit slower than the Buffalo for sure. Using the same laptop in the same location I got speeds that were 18% slower. Not great but not garbage to me. I am going to use these at the far ends of the house as WDS "client" units and they will serve my purpose there. I would want another router as my primary unit. |
