WGT614 is not a netgear router model...

Is it a WGR614 or a WGT624?

it should be a WGR614, but how do we know these are not dd-wrt compatible? do we know the version?

How good is Wireless-N Router?

Netgear WNR834B Wireless-N Router Refurbished

WNR834B IS DD-WRT COMPATIBLE... anyone recommend it?

FYI, OOS.

ETA: Sorry, I meant WGT614NAR is OOS.

WNR834B still in stock

very very tempting on the N router.

Amazon reviews seem to be good with DD-WRT.

Too bad I have my WRT54G configured correctly on DD-WRT, so I will pass..

Looks like a winner though.

anyone know if this has gigabit lan?

If yes, Id buy it.

edit: no only 10/100 lan ports

could use the n-router in our old-sss apt bldg.
all the walls are freaking 12" thick, can't get
connection when i'm sitting on the throne. keke.

going to have to attached it to the t-mob @home
router via ethernet, and use the n-router as wifi.

just picked one up.. great price for a dd-wrt router
hope it comes with the vertical stand!

The Netgear WNR834B Wireless-N is a steal for $25. This thing retails for $129. Overstock wants $89.99 for the same refurb. Just ordered one for in store pickup. Thanks OP.

Welcome to 8 hours ago!

The N router is still in stock...

i have this router. is anyone having trouble with a pc trying forever to acquire an ip address from this router?

If you try unencrypted [no WEP/WPA/etc] does it work?

Misleading..

PriceGrabber has refurbished ranged from ($29 - $49) + shipping.

where do we get DD-WRT for the Netgear WNR834B. I'm looking on www.dd-wrt.com, I see where it's supported but where do you download from?

Follow lillazyfats81 link and where you see Step 1:

Step 1: Download the mini version of DD-WRT version 24, build 9856, new driver in the dot CHK format HERE

Click on HERE and it should pop up a save window. Good luck.

picked one up and flashed to dd-wrt mini within 2 minutes. Good router for my parents' house where they are currently without wireless.

do you recommend it?

hows the range?

did the router lock up at all?

For an N router, seems incredibly cheap...

Anyone want to comment on its quality with DD-WRT?

I recommend this. I have been through a TON of routers that supported various firmware, and anything at this price range that even runs DD-WRT mini/micro is a good deal. I've never had lockups with more recent firmware revisions. I have a few of these in my house acting as repeater bridges so I have massive amounts of coverage.

Give me a couple of weeks and I'll report back. I doubt I'll have any trouble with this, though. It feels pretty decent. It is super light.

Thanks OP! This week has been DD-WRT heaven; first a Linksys WRT54GL at the local Goodwill for $5, now the WNR834B

I ordered with in store pickup 2 hours ago. Still no email. Do I need to wait until I get the email before going to the store? I know the store is closed now. Just wanted to know how it works. Thanx

Thanks OP! Great deal!

Picked up the n-router. Hope dd-wrt flashes.

No, this one does not. The Gig lan model is the WNR854T.

Picked up the dd-wrt compat one...to those who upgraded theirs....was the process complicated?

I am canceling the order.

That's for a MUCH older revision of DD-WRT mini. The newer revisions have complete compatibility and are super stable/fast and all of the kinks are worked out. You just lost out on a really good router because you read a thread that was over a year out of date

Btw, everyone, don't forget to turn on web GUI management after flashing, otherwise you won't be able to apply any changes.

sorry for the noob question -- i was reading about DD-WRT and dont' really understand the main benefits over a basic user like me. what would a average joe user benefit from flashing it?

it is a dd-wrt compatible N-router, but wont be a good one. it seems current dd-wrt version is kinda buggy for this router.

as to running dd-wrt, I would recommend Linksys and buffalo since dd-wrt has been developed and improved for these 2 brands for longs, especially, linksys.

If you are getting this router as an "as is" router, then you are better off waiting for a good deal (possibly FAR) on one of those D-Link or Trendnet router. The main reason (and probably the only reason I can think off) is that people are getting it for its DD-WRT compatibility. The main benefit that pop off my head right away is "stability", which of course is a key when you talking about internet connection. I am pretty sure the rest of the expert users can fill you in on all other benefits.

I wonder if any of yall actually read the dd-wrt page posted in the first couple of posts for this router.....

"The Netgear WNR834Bv2 is now fully supported as of 3rd July 2008. Thanks to Eko, Brainslayer, etc. for their superb work in getting this router supported.

These (slightly modified) instructions were first posted by sparkie HERE. Read that complete thread for the hairy details on getting this device fully supported, if you are so interested or suffer from insomnia.

Step 1: Download the mini version of DD-WRT version 24, build 9856, new driver in the dot CHK format HERE."

" * DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLASH ANY BUILDS EARLIER THAN 9856 DATED 3RD JULY 2008, or you risk bricking your router. Some of the v24 release candidate 7s worked with minor bugs. But the first final v24 bricked the router for some users as a result of a problem with JFFS.

* NEWD = New Drivers; VINT = Vintage"

Summary: Fully supported with latest firmware.

I didnt say it isnt fully supported by dd-wrt. I meant it is just not as good as linksys and baffalo in term of stability and performance while running dd-wrt.
