Cash Back is available from FatWallet!Staples: 2.0% Cash Back » See offers, coupons, ratings, and applicable restrictions. (see conditions)

According to another user with this drive, it's a Western Digital SATA.

From the thread on SD, it looks like someone has this drive...when they opened it up, it was a western digital SATA. In for one.

This is what i did:

SimpleTech 250GB (QTY=2 @ $89.98 each) = $179.96
- $20 instant discount 1 drive
- $20 instant discount 1 drive
- $25 off $100 (or $75)
+ $8.34 (CA TAx, ARGH!)
+ $0 Shipping
- 2% Cash Back ($114.96 x 2% = $2.30)
+ $3 for the coupon

=> $126.30 (after Cash Back) ==> $124.00 for both drive.

* I ended up buying two because i couldn't get the instant $20 off and $25 off $75/$100 to stack. This was the only way i got it to work. Best of luck, that comes down to $62 a drive.

When you receive them, take your receipt and one drive into a local Staples B&M and see what they will give you if you return it. If you're lucky and they don't break your $25 off coupon across both items, they'll give you back $74.15 for the drive you return; that'll drop your cost down to $52.15 ($51 after FWCG) for the one that you keep. This is of course assuming that you don't want to keep both of them. Worst case scenario they give you $63.15 back and you're only $63.15 out of pocket for one and your coupon only saves you $12.50 instead of $25.

The $20 will stack if you add $5 filler. I got mine with tax $56.xx. I use mine to upgrade my PS3 from 80gb to 250gb... Yeah!

Note: Its 2.5" WD scorpio excellent for upgrading your PS3 harddrive.

NIS 2009 has a $20 MIR if purchased with any hard drive (offer 08-31517) making it FAR when purchased with HD (after 3 rebates: $30 Easyrebate, $20 upg, $20 for NIS+HD). Note both $20 rebates require original POP but it should work.

HTH

Edit: NIS 2009 3-user SKU 758743 Link

Think twice before upgrading your notebook's drive with this WD drive.
My Toshiba notebook came with 80GB Hitachi hard drive. For over a year, Windows Vista never hang due to disk problem.
With the cloned 250GB WD drive taken from Simpletech portable drive, it ran OK for a few hours then suddenly the disk would make loud noise and Vista hang up. I have just rebooted one more time a while ago.
I don't know much about the physics of the platter but high capacity and weight might be the problem for the motor.

It has nothing to do with the motor. It sounds like your drive might just be defective.

There are very few hard drive manufacturers anymore: Hitachi/IBM, Toshiba, Seagate, Maxtor, and WD. Some of them onlymakes high capacity drive (750GB and larger; 3.5 inch drives); others make 2.5 inch drives, usually 320GB or smaller. SimpleTech and Iomega don't make their own hard drives. They buy from the big boys and may not get the best drives. If you wanrt to replace the HDD for laptop, buy from the OEM guys. You'll be happier. Also 2.5 inch drives com ein 4200 rpm, 5400 rpm, 7200 rpm and 10000 rpm. So do your homework.

Nothing wrong with Scorpios in general. Your's in specific however, sounds FUBAR.
Run a utility like WD's DataLifeGuard diagnostics on it (extended test for full sector scan).

hmm, i have a 25 of 75 coupon at work. Any ideas for good filler? DO i really need another drive, i have 1.4 TB but its all internal, i would like a drive to take to customers with all my needed utilities and keep all my linux isos and stuff on it. Are these drives reliable?
