1. Asus 1000h is not a netbook. WAY to big and bulky.
2. Almost nobody uses BT on thier laptop. Who cares?
3. Wireless N is a gimmick
4. Did I mention the Asus 1000h is not a netbook? Its HUGE.
If this little netbook lives up to it's promise, I think it will compete just fine at it's current price point (with FW discounts, of course!). If all one does is surf the net and do basic tasks, then it's size and weight (just over 2 lbs) will serve me, and others perfectly. Now, if Dell can put quality into promise, then we have a winner... If the quality sucks (like some recent Dell lappies), thumbs down. I'm going to wait and see one for myself before I judge....but it has my interest as of now.
This netbook should be priced at $299.99. No more.

If they could price the 1GB version with Win XP and the 16GB SSD at $299, they'd fly out the door...IMHO.

Now now...I own one so I can tell you that:
1. Asus has the SAME Atom processor/video chipset/motherboard as every other netbook out there only with with a more user-friendly 10.2" screen so it IS a netbook.
2. The smaller the device, the better it is to have bluetooth. Think of a cellphones. It's better to have it built-in than not. You never know when it might comes in handy.
3. Wireless-N has better range/speed and it's backward compatible
4.Asus 1000H IS a netbook that acutally has a nearly full-sized, usable keyboard and a bigger screen that your eyes will thank you in the long run.
I thought the Asus had 120+ HDs - If so, are they solid state?

This is the funniest one. Do you remember a year, a year and a half ago before these netbooks started hitting? a 4 lb 13.3" laptop was like 2.5k and was considered TINY.

It is all relative.
From the Laptop Mag review of the S10:
The S10’s 802.11b/g Wi-Fi card had the fastest transfer rates we’ve yet seen from a netbook, delivering a whopping 19.9 Mbps and 19.1 Mbps from 15 and 50 feet, respectively. This blew away the MSI Wind (14.5/7.7 Mbps) and even the 802.11n-equipped ASUS Eee PC 1000H (10.4/6.1 Mbps). The only system with similar numbers was the Acer Aspire one (20.6/17.1 Mbps). In other words, you should be able to move a good distance away from your router at home or from hotspots and still expect good connectivity
They all have pros and cons, the biggest cons for the S10 is only 512mb of RAM and the 3 cell battery available at launch. If it had 1gb and a 6 cell, it might be more of a player right now.
I wonder why so many of these "netbooks" are launching with skimpy batteries and memory? Maybe they want folks to buy now and then re-buy when they release a better version? Makes no sense, they should have the better versions available now.

Asus 1000H comes with 160GB. Not solid state.

Its HUGE compared to the Acer One and Lenovo s10 which also has a 10.2" screen. and again, nobody cares about or uses bluetooth which is why its no included. bluetooth is for wantabees. Finally, Dwynne has shown you wireless N is a gimmick...

Can't speak to the batteries but Microsoft has made a licensing deal with the netbook manufacturers to only allow 1GB of memory on the XP based systems in order to differentiate them from the Vista notebooks (typical MS...). I spoke with a Dell CSR who told me that a larger battery is in the works; however, as of the last time I looked, you can't even buy a replacement battery for the mini-9. There is supposedly a supply problem; however, I don't always buy that.....
I don't know what you guys are talking about that the s10 is not a good player. The s10 is $399 and it comes with 512 memory, so what. Anyone who buy these netbooks will upgrade the memory anyways. Just pop in a 2GB for $13 from FRYS and you are all good. The s10 is lack of bluetooth but it have express slot which others don't. The only problem is the battery on the s10, but i can tell you that the s10 is the most beautiful one out of all.

They do look nice, but they are $439 (not $399) and like some of the competition not available for immediate delivery. The memory on them IS easy to upgrade but the OEM 512 is soldered in and the system can only handle 2gb total. So adding 2gb nets 2gb and not 2.5gb.
I agree on the the BT, you can get a little BT USB adapter for almost nothing if you have to have it.
The 3 cell battery and short life are the real deal killers to me. Also runs pretty hot as well.
For $399 or $439 with 1gb of memory and a 6 cell battery then they would have a real deal.
My last 3 notebooks (normal size) have all been ThinkPads. If the S10 had the pointing "nipple" I would probably order one even with the tiny battery. I hate glide pads and no netbook (yet) has an alternate pointing device built in.

Why do you insist that the 1000H is NOT a netbook? Do you even freaking know what the criterias are to make a machine a netbook besides it's SIZE? I don't think you do so lemme educate you. Intel/Microsoft along with the computer manufacturers decided that ANY computer in the netbook catergory must adhere to the following hardwares requirements at the PRESENT time:
1)Must have an Atom processor
2)Must be based on the the Intel® 945PM/GS Express Chipset with 512KB L2 Cache and 533MHz FSB
3)Must use the Intel® Integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 950
4)Microsoft will only license its Windows XP OS should the manufacturers choose to include it in there netbook models. Or they can use Linux
The 1000H met ALL of the criterias that I just described above so for ALL intend and purposes it IS a freaking netbook. Almost ALl of the netbooks on the market have these hardwares "under the hood" with the exception of a few of the very earliest netbook models.
Everything else such as the size of the harddrive/SSD, or the size of the screen (from 7" to 10.2" LED type at the current time)the type of wireless card, weather to include bluetooth or not. The available of HSDPA port or the number of USB ports. The type of card reader...the capacity of the battery....ALL of these are just gravy and left up to the discrection of the manufacturers. Sure the 1000H is the heaviest of all the netbooks out there at the moment but that doesn't make it NOT a netbook. It has all the hardware components that qualifies it as a netbook. Ask anyone who's knowledgeable about the netbook category and he/she will tell you that the 1000H IS a netbook. To say otherwise is just ignorant.
BTW, I KNOW that the S10 has a 10.2 LED screen just like the 1000H. I was referring to the AspireONE which has a smaller 8.9 screen. You might not care about bluetooth but my argument is that it's BETTER to have it built-in (especially on a device that is as portable as a netbook). I listen to my music using the bluetooth-enabled Motorola S9 headphones or do voice-chat on Skype or msn or yahoo messenger wirelessly using bluetooth. I can pair my bluetooth phone with my 1000H wirelessly using bluetooth. I can transfer files to and from my 1000H to my desktop using bluetooth. I can pair my bluetooth mouse with my 1000H using bluetooth. Oh and I have a bluetooth GPS receiver that I can pair with my 1000H and turn it into a nice full featured navigation system. So how is having bluetooth on a netbook that allowed me to do all of these things wirelessly is considered "wannabee" according to you as you so eloquently put it?

I agree that the S10 is one of the best looking netbook out there right now according to the pics that I've seen. However, it also looks a bit "plasticky". I prefer the piano finish of the 1000H eventhough it's a fingerprints magnet. The 1000H just doesn't have that cheap plasticky looks that are in a lot of the old Dell laptops. It's also very solid which I was suprised when I received it. The S10 deal breaker for me is the 3-cell battery. That would only gives you about 2.5 hrs of usage. I get at least 5 or more hours of usage on the 1000H with wifi on. Buying a 6-cell battery is going to cost you. Also, S10 is not readily available for shipment right now. By the time Lenovo have it ready to ship, the price of all netbooks would be lower then. Everything else about the S10 can be easily upgraded or added from memory to bluetooth.
