I'm going to say it should work if it works with the iPhone. All of my other accessories from my first iPhone work with my 3G.

The only problem I've ever had with ipod chargers is that the old ones output 12V (The ones were the cord connect to the power brick with firewire), and newer ipods/iphones run on 5v. They still charge, but the iphone charges HOT, and damages the screen... Thankfully I got it warranted.

not necessarily, i've bought 2 inexpensive iphone car chargers,
and neither work with the 3g.
