Linksys Media Center Extender DMA2100 is $119.99 on Amaz0n and at checkout another $20 are deducted. The discount is actually applicable to all Linksys products on Amazon of $100 or more. For example, Linksys DMP2200 can be had for only $130.

At the bottom look for Bill Me Later option for additional $15 off $100 (or $10 off $50)

The other $100 deal was from Newegg so no, this is not a repost.

Hum, it is better than Newegg for me because no NJ tax. I need to return one from Newegg.

Green for you. I threw in a kids DVD as filler to get me over the $100 mark. Basically got the DVD for free.

abakben1 just curious, why red?

the red may be because of personal experience with the extender. they don't have the greatest of reputations versus something like XBMC.

Good deal! Def better than Newegg cause of the tax. I want to wait for this to come down more in price though. That and I'm avoiding Vista like the plague, and this requires Vista so... blehhhh on Vista and Linksys!

Got 1 from Newegg deal last week. I have Vista Ultimate PC and actually like it alot becasue it is stable (yes, stable) and fast. But this MCE Extender is driving me nut, 1) I am forced to skip wireless connection before Wireless G is still not fast enough to stream video. 2) some divx files may require editing of header in order to play, 3) FLAC music files (80% of my files) can be forced to play on WMP and MCE by installing the right codec plugin but they won't play at all with the MCE extender.

Basically, I, unlike many here, love Vista Ultimate until the arrival of this Media Center Extender.

samjoandco, my bad for not being clearer. I was referring to the $15 off $100 coupon if you use Bill Me Later.

Got one from the Newegg deal also. It took few hours to setup so that I could stream ripped vobs in VIDEO_TS folders. It works now that I have the right plugins. I have mine hardwired and don't have any issues streaming. I did try wireless (G) and it worked OK, but on one of the movies, I lost audio in the middle of the movie. So, that was it for wireless option.

I have not tried any of my music in FLAC format. I coverted all of the FLAC files to MP3 to be more compatable with extenders and such.

Next step is to install the NetFlix plug-in to stream movies (or save them for later watching)and I'm all set... My wife loves this gadget. It's small, quite and she can play any movie or music and now on NetFlix too.

It does take time to make this Extender to what it's not setup to do out of the box. I do recommend updating the firmware on it.

Having streaming....

sunnyvali: Can you explain which plug-in you installed to play VOB files on this device?

Even hotter (in my opinion):

DMA2200 with a built-in DVD player (upscaling to 1080P) for $129
DMA2200 Media Center Extended with DVD

I have one of these setup with the Netflix plugin and it works great. The only issue that I am working through now is getting it to play 1080i video without stuttering. It seems to have an issue decoding HD mpeg's.

Keep in mind that these may not work with Windows 7, but right now, as far as I know, it does work with TvPack 2008 (Fiji) - or at least the 2200 does.

You might be better off picking up an X360 Core system, since MS actually seems to want to support those in the future.

Most of what I did is covered in the old thread or the thegreenbutton site. I installed the transcode360 on my Vista Ultimate Laptop. Then installed the VideoBrowser (check the link for this plug-in at the above site). For installing the transcode360, I followed a guide published by someone. I think I followed this guide hxxp://windowsmediacenter.blogspot.com/2008/07/using-transcode-360-with-my-movies-and.html

You have the choice of using OML, MyMovies or VideoBrowser to watch VOB files from the extender. I have 2 out 3 working. There are limitation to using the trancode360 - such as it will continue to transcode the entire vob file, even if you stop playing. However, the advantage is that you don't have to transcode the next time. There is an option to tell it how many movies to keep in the cache, to not overwhelm the disk space. Mine is set at 3.

Feel free to ask any question or PM me.

That's very interesting indeed. I also got one of these from the Newegg deal, and have not been able to get a consistent wireless setup (but ok hardwired). I guess it's a problem with the router not wanting to play with the gadget. I've spent too much time and energy on this baby.

I also have an XBox which has worked fine as an MCE hardwired (and wirelessly). I was really hoping to be able to use this unit in my studio (no ethernet drops there)... and use a lot less electricity on an MCE. Perhaps a future model will be best for me.

Thanks for the information.

Thanks OP, if I end up re-purchasing, I'll go the Amazon way!

Green for you!
