for S3 make sure it's WD10EACS-32ZJB0: 01.01B01, otherwise it won't work.
I have two questions for you.
1. How would one find out if it is 32ZJB0: 01.01B01?
2. Why would other ones not work with S3?
I got this drive for my TiVo HD and it works. Maybe I just got lucky or is THD different from S3 when it comes to drive issues?
Yes, the TiVo HD is different from the original S3 in this specific drive issue. The specific drive works perfectly in the TiVo HD, but does not work properly in the S3.
1. It will most likely not be the 32ZJB0 because this was one of the very first versions of this drive, which WD changed(in ways they are not admitting). There is no sure way of knowing exactly which version one will receive, short of being informed of the complete model #, which is somewhat rare for this drive. It seems, as far as WD(and/or dealers) is concerned, all WD10EACS are the same. So one would have to see the complete model # on the label stuck on the actual drive, or be told of the complete number.
2. No one really knows(or is not telling) why other revisions of the drive don't operate(properly) inside the original TiVo S3, but the TiVo will not properly restart itself at times when it may be required. They only way it will restart properly with other versions of the EACS is to remove from power, or unplug it, and plug it back in.
Just suffice it to know that for use with the original TiVo S3 model, the WD10EACS should be avoided. S3 owners wanting a WD 1TB Green Power drive should use the WD10EVCS, which has been demonstrated to work perfectly.
