doesn't matter, this is still a very good buy, hopefully a E0 steping not C1. The first application for the new processor will be server and you might have to wait even longer in 09 for a desktop processor, also the price will be ridiculously expensive. After all that said, I would wait for a new processor to come out to see if they would price cut this one even further. Green for you
with 30% CB at eBay, this seems a cold deal
is there any budget mobo go with this that has 4 memory slots, 3/4 PCIs and Raid 0,1,5 ?

Actually we will see 3 nehalem desktop processors at 2.66ghz ($284), 2.93ghz ($564) and extreme edition 3.2ghz($999) in november. Server side cpus(gainestown) is expected to come out in Q1.
I don't get the "wait" attitude unless there is something revolutionary around the corner. Why wait for Nehalem unless you need, really need, the 8 cores + ddr3 + power/speed improvements (~20% each)? After all, once Nehalem is out, Westmere will be "Coming real soon!", etc etc.
The only reason in this case is to avoid buying into an old socket type on the board.

While OEMs resellers like Newegg may begin to stock nehalem's those estimated prices are just the beginning in terms of getting a nehalem PC up and running. It will easily cost 3-4 times that initial processor investment to get even a basic PC running given that virtually every component in the PC will have to be replaced except possibly your power supply. By the time you purchase a supported motherboard, at LEAST 4GB DDR3 memory which despite the worldwide DDR memory glut DDR3 has not dropped significantly in pricing like DDR2 and initial testing shows 4GB is the minimum amount of DDR3 where the nehalem provides ANY measurable performance gain over quad cores.
PC component OEMs in Asia have drastically scaled back release dates for their new stock products using nehalem given the state of the global economy and PC sales plummeting worldwide. In terms of US PC manufacturers who rely on those Asian PC component manufacturers to supply you will see nehalem appearing gradually in spot elite multi-thousand dollar gaming configurations over the next 8 months but there will be NO mass conversion by OEMs to offer the nehalem in their mainstream PC lines until costs of supporting components drop dramatically. In generalk when it comes to PC performance, buy what you need when it is cost effective to your budget and not what you want just because it is new. I seriously doubt there are more than a handful here that could actually take advantage of nehalem’s 8 core architecture in a desktop PC.
I have really been trying to decide if I should go with Q9550 or wait on the Core i7 920, I guess at worse waiting will at least drop the prices on the Q9550.
