i'm looking for a basic revolver that shoots .38 specials (and .357 magnum if i need.)
which is a good one?
I'm thinking....why would you want two magazines instead of $30? I see free field and stream and others from time to time.....LOL, it's not THAT type of magazine, LOL!

For concealed carry, the 442 and 642 are aluminum alloy frames, very lightweight, concealed hammer. Only fire up to 38 special +P. If you want to carry a 357 magnum snub, they make the model 340, which is very pricey. But 357s from a leightweight snubnose are incredibly punishing to fire. You won't enjoy it.
For home security, the model 360 (steel frame), or move up to a K or L medium frame.
For recreational target shooting...none of the ones on that link. You'd be better off with a 4" to 6" barrel, such as the Model 10 (38 spl) or Model 686 (357 magnum) (K or L frames).
Since you're asking here, I'll assume price matters, in which case, I would suggest looking at used guns in the local gun shops. It's hard to beat the 442 and 642 for concealed carry. They are so popular, they don't show up used very often, and when they do, they are still premium priced. You will more likely find the heaver, steel Model 36 (38 special) or Model 60 (357). They will be in the $300 to $350 range, used.
For home security and recreational target shooting, the best value you will likely find in S&W revolvers will be one of the many police trade in Model 64, 65 or 66's. The 64 is a medium frame 38 special with a four inch barrel. The 65 is a 357 in the same configuration. The 66 is the same as the 65 with the addition of adjustable sights. These are typically available for $250 to $325 in very good condition.
10% off a hand gun is not a hot deal --- and gun dealers would have this sitting on their counter anyhow
OP just wants to post something about guns because he thinks guns are cool
whoop dee doo --- and NRA debates are boring

go back to Germany.
Wish this was valid for the Walther (S&W made) I just picked up...
Green for OP, though I'm not a big fan of the guns on the rebate.

I don't know why the folks on this thread get their panties all wrapped up
if I posted a $30 rebate on a $400 printer --- people would laugh, give red, and tell me to go away
but because it is about guns --- everyone gets into this macho gun frenzy thing and gives red --- lol!!!

lol!!! professionals that use guns in their professions --- don't get all excited thinking about them
I don't know why folks who have no interest in deals comment on them.
If I posted a $30 rebate on a printer --- you wouldn't bother.
But because it is about guns --- you have some need to try to be disruptive. lol!!!
And some here are professionals who use guns in their professions and most others, beyond apparently you, really don't get so excited thinking about them.
sorry, I just don't see the rebate as a hot deal
a $30 rebate on a $450 item is not a hot deal
there are other threads that have posted S&W guns with the rebate and which maybe a hot deal ---
sorry for being disruptive --- carry on troopers ---
Thanks for the heads-up. That $50 rebate extension is good news for me.
Prices tend to be competitive on handguns (the margins are slim also). People that use handguns in their profession tend to have more than just a few, also. 10% discounts are pretty big news on brands like Glock, S&W, HK, Sig, Kimber, etc.
It looks like you may be interested in saving some money by buying a Taurus. S&W revolvers are top of the line -- I love them. But the Taurus is reliable and more affordable.

Bears repeating. If you're considering it, go rent one at a range or something and put 50 rounds through it.
