Generally when products in a Costco store end with a price of ".97", it means the item is on clearance. Unfortunately Costco does not yet have a consistent national clearance schedule (as far as I know), which makes this deal somewhat YMMV.

In addition to reduced noise & better mileage, this seems easier to load and probably a better load factor mounted on a hitch than to roof rails.

May be it's Sunday morning but I cannot find this item anywhere except the MFG site. Costco.com does not have the item #184478 anywhere. Scrolled through the auto section and EverThere brand was not even listed.

Is this a BM only item ? And if so, how I can find out availability before making the long trip to Costco BM store.

This is a huge YMMV BM item. I got it a couple months ago for somewhere between OP's price and original price. They didn't have one at my local CostCo because I waited too long to buy it but we were heading on vacation and they had several at the CostCo near our destination.

The CostCo version comes with a bag to sit on the cargo carrier. I really like this and thought it was a great deal as well. Only problem is, if your car/suv/truck exhausts to the rear, you'll burn a hole in your cargo carrier bag. I learned this the hard way and had to buy a exhaust tip (around $50). Found a nice one at AutoAnything and had it welded on for $15. Make sure you get a stainless steel one and get the right size. I tried a bolt on but ended up having it welded anyway because they had to cut the exhaust, etc...

EDIT: the best way to find where these are is to ask your local store to look it up and find where they have some in the area. Keywords are everthere and cargo carrier.

fwiw. my friends have a similar type product and they work well on suv's but not on minivans. there's not enough road clearance with a fully loaded minivan. the carrier may scrape the driveway when you go up or down. i've seen this happen with my friends as we caravaned on camping trips.

Hi dougneb,

which brand/type of exhaust tip did you get for your car?

Hi momoman,

>there's not enough road clearance with a fully loaded minivan. the carrier may scrape the driveway when you go up or down.

good point. I need to watch out for potential problem. Any solutions to connector to bent it upward and curve?

can I use this increase clearance from the ground of my Nissan Quest Van to avoid scaping problem?
extension converter Instead of lowering it, I'll be using the reverse to increase clearance instead. Is this possible? I need feedback from you guys.

Thanks.

I got a Gibson turndown exhaust tip. Purchased from AutoAnything with FatCash and price matched to Amazon. I was really impressed with AutoAnything.

If I had to do it over again, I probably wouldn't have bought a bolt on since I got it welded on in the end anyway. I thought I would be able to do the work myself but ended up having someone else do it.

the only time you'll scrape is when you're going up/down a steep angle like a driveway, or when you drive over a speed bump. i would just drive slowly when you encounter those situations. you should be okay everywhere else.

which costco did you find it at? i didn't have a chance to visit costco today but will try to look for it tomorrow. thanks.

FWIW we use a large Thule cartop carrier on our Chrysler T&C with no loss of MPG and minimal noise even with the sunroof open. Plus we can still access the tailgate unlike this type of cargo carrier, and it can fit much more cargo as well.

My Highlander hatch opens easily over the hitch cargo carrier, plus the license plate is clearly visible. Also, I don't need a ladder to load my cargo carrier on top of my car that DOES impact MPG. As far as capacity concerns, that depends on the carrier you get.

Another nice thing about the everlast, you can buy a bicycle mount and bolt it on. And you can load bags of cement or whatever else you don't want in the back of your car. I'd like to see someone put a bag of cement in the carrier on top of their vehicle. Threadcrappers...

I guess that totally depends on what you have stored on the hitch carrier now doesn't it? Try putting 21 cubic feet of luggage on the hitch carrier and then open the rear hatch. Plus you better have some waterproof luggage if you are going to be putting it on a hitch carrier because everything is going to get soaked if you drive through any rain or puddles unlike the cartop carrier where everything stays nice and dry. On a van you don't need a ladder to load a side opening cartop carrier you just open the side door and step on the door sill, and no, on the T&C it did not effect the gas mileage at all. For your information I was not threadcrapping I was offering another point of view.

And as for bags of cement, no I wouldn't put them in a cartop carrier, that's what I have a pickup truck for. And again if it's raining the cement bags are going to go inside your Highlander anyway, now aren't they. Besides, with a 400 pound limit you couldn't put more than 5 80lb bags on the hitch carrier anyway.

Sorry to have hurt your feelings by offering a different point of view, but if the hitch carrier works for you then great, however for many others their needs are not going to be as limited.

"Sorry to have hurt your feelings by offering a different point of view" Sorry for threadcrapping?

"And again if it's raining..." Uhh... do I really have to respond to this? Where do you live, Seattle?

"...that's what I have a pickup truck for." Nevermind, you must live in the Midwest. (ok, so you live in Virginia) I must be one of the small minority whose second vehicle isn't a pickup truck.

"...21 cubic feet of luggage..." The bag holds 13 cubic feet, so, point to you.

"...waterproof luggage..." Everthere claims to be "weather proof" but some of my stuff did get wet through my exhaust burn hole. If you aren't stupid like me (or live in monsoonville like WOV), you won't have this issue

"...on the T&C it did not effect the gas mileage at all..." Quick google search has most people claiming 1-5 MPG drop. Kudos to you if you notice no drop cuz that was one of the reasons I went with the everthere. Another reason was so my wife could load/unload it and so she didn't damage my garage door.

"Besides, with a 400 pound limit" What is the weight limit on top of your T&C?

And how much did you pay for your Thule? Thule Atlantis 2100 runs over $500

Oh yeah, another point to you because you didn't have to get an exhaust tip welded on your rig.

Like I said, if it works for you then great, but many other's needs are not going to be as limited as yours. Not everyone else is going to be able to plan their trips when there will not be ANY chance of rain as you seem to be able to do. So stick with your choice and allow others to make up their own minds.

You put your comments and I put my comments so people can make up their minds. Your $500 Thule works for you and my $100 Everthere works for me.

Thule - expensive, more capacity, no hatch/hitch/exhaust issues, mpg hit (unless you drive a T&C), changes the vehicle center of gravity (increasing rollover risk), your second vehicle is a pickup

Everthere - 1/5 of the price, easier to attach/detatch, easier to load, no garage door damage, more versatile

i went to a socal costco today and they checked their system for me and told me that all socal costco are oos. the last price in the system was $189.xx or so for the socal stores. the only store "near" socal with it in stock is the hawaii store. i didn't ask which island...........

edit: the csr couldn't find the item by the op's sku. she searched the product name and found the sku to be 184474
