AWFUL screen. Be aware this is NOT a normal laptop. Its got a WXGA screen at 1366 x 768. Stupid design.

me too, i've got one from the Acer One Deal still. Also, anyone else agree with Onion's take on the screen? Why is this a big deal?

Has anyone compared this laptop to the Toshiba on sale at Circuit City starting today? It is a 15.4" priced at $449. Includes a free printer and some other goodies. Have not had a chance to see what Staples or Office Depot has on sale starting today. Does anybody else think this Acer is a bad deal, know the earlier post said it had an awful screen?

Just ordered one plus the lexmark wireless printer/copier for $484.00 shipped including tax. This is the best deal that I have seen in awhile. Xmas shopping is almost done.

Onion's FOS as always. This 15.6" screen is a little more wide than tall, compared to regular 15.4" screens.

This allows Acer to extend the keyboard area, which is why this laptop has a full numeric keypad (a big plus).

15.4" WXGA = 1280 x 800 pixels
15.6" WXGA = 1366 x 768 pixels

So you get a little more horizontal resolution, and give up a little vertical resolution. I don't see what the big deal is.

This article does a decent job of explaining why some dislike the 16:9 vs 16:10:

pcmag.com link

Complaining about "the man" screwing over consumers by only doing this to cut costs aside (considering this laptop is only $400 means that perhaps some of those savings are passed to the consumer), there is one significant valid point: Less vertical space.

As the article indicates, word documents, websites, and most applications are designed top down. Although it's only a small difference (1280x800 vs 1366x768), that is some vertical screen space you are losing. This means you wind up scrolling around websites and applications more, or having to zoom out of a 4:3 photo or video clip to see the full image.

Not the end of the world, but still kind of annoying.

1366x768 sounds familiar. Isn't that a resolution for 720p? Or at least somewhere darn close to it? If so, this notebook would look pretty nice connected to HDTVs.

It's 16:9 which is what HDTVs generally use. When you use the TV-out on a laptop you can usually choose any resolution supported by the tv. This means you don't really need a laptop running at a 16:9 resolution on it's LCD screen to get a 16:9 resolution to output to the tv.

Anyone know what the battery life is on this laptop. The detail does not say if it is a 4 or 6 cell lithium battery. Am surprised it has numeric keypad, thought you could only get those on the 17" screen. This is a definite plus.

That's twice you've said the screen sucks. Please visit some other topic, and give this thread a rest for a while.

I thought the wide screen looked cool, the full keyboard was nice, but I got there an hour after closing and they were all gone.
