$30 Mail-in Rebate (expires 10/9)

Note that this is the new BL2KIT12864AA80A kit introduced since July 2008 with the improved 2.0v memory chips. Please don't confuse it with the old & dreadful BL2KIT12864AA804.8FE5 or BL2KIT12864AA1065.8FE5 modules many people bought in the early half of 2008.

Past discussion for reference

Edit: As of Oct. 10 the $30 rebate offer is renewed and the deal continues. The new rebate is valid 10/10 - 10/16 and can be downloaded here.

Put the total amount before rebate in title. Some FWers don't do rebates. Thanks.

$45.99 w/free ship before rebate.

And to emphasize the whole Ballistix ordeal.....the crappy ones you see so much about were ONE particular type as mentioned above. The initial dual sided ones were great, everything they were supposed to be. Then they switched to inferior single sided chips which is where all the negativity and bad talk arose....and rightfully so. I started with 2gb of the first dual sided type which worked great, then picked up another 2gb that were the single sided type for the same machine, and they were pretty bad and caused problems. I eventually got crucial to send me the first model dual sided type through RMA the second time around, and all was great again. I've been running 4gb (4x1gb) at 4-4-3-12 410mhz @ 1.9v rock solid for well over 1yr, close to 2 now. Granted not much of an overclock on the ram, but tight timings with 4 sticks and undervolted per the recomended 2.2v error free makes me happy with them.

I dont know much about these new chips they are using now in em, but it appears the recognize the previous version was crap and did something about it, so I would guess this type should be OK.

How do you know they aren't still shipping some 804's?? They aren't providing any detailed info in the product description. The rebate form lists 804's along with 80A's as belonging to the UPC. They could still be dumping the crap memory.

The old '804' model is still listed at frys, with a different item #5375608 - note that the product page clearly states the model BL2KIT12864AA804 on that one, with the 2.2v requirement below. Now the deal in question is about item #5672021. In case they ship the wrong item, you have every ground to get them exchange the right item for you.

Since Fry's has a good return policy, there's not much risk even if you're suspicious OP's description of the memory may not be correct.

i thought exactly the same, my friends who ended up getting single sided, all died. i had dual sided, and they lasted almost a year. i recently rma'd them
and they sent me back single sided. these refuse to run @ 4-4-4-12 @ 2.0 i'm to lazy to send them back again tho. but i did get in on this fry's deal to up myself to 4 gigs. oh well.

Finally, a Fry's deal on the new 2.0v Ballistix! They had a bunch of rebate deals to clear out the crummy single-sided 2.2v stuff.

This is advertised in-store for $25AR, so it's a better deal online.

AFAIK Crucial's '804' stocks are already depleted from their warehouse. If you RMA the bad sticks now, they should send you the new '80A' ones. If you want more assurance try their live chat or call 800-336-8915 before 6pm MST. Hope this helps.

I bought 2GB worth of the 804's in May 07. Does anyone know if dual channel would still work if I added 2 more GB using this new kit (I need more ram!)? Not sure what factors would "cancel" out the dual channel capability.

Thanks

And thanks for the post, OP. Picked some up.

Thanks for the heads up about the max ram used. Max for XP is 3.25GB right? So I guess it would be "wasting" in some ways, but if I just got one stick to get to 3GB, I assume the dual channel would not work.

Yes. But Crucial/Fry's may renew the rebate offer after 10/9. In that case, you are eligible for one rebate per promotion so you'll end up with 4GB of Ballistix for $32 AR. Make your bet.

Is anyone finding 4 sticks of RAM to be slower than 2, even with the increased amount of memory?

Your motherboard may automatically degrade the memory clock rate with 4 sticks of RAM. How much do you know about BIOS settings?

More than average.
