I can't decide between the American Tourister wheeled carry-on here with $7.50 shipping and the
American Tourister 21 inch upright here which is available for local pick up. Both models seem to be exclusive to Sears. Opinions?

for luggage, I recommned always stick on high-quality product like samsonite.
It any cheap one fails on your trip, you probably stuck in your trip

I have a 15 yo American Tourister that has literally been tossed out of the plane. The only thing wrong is the piping on the edge has given way. I had a hardshell Samsonite on which the locks broke. Any manufacturer has good stuff and bad stuff. Didn't find any Tumi or TravelPro on Sears site.

I suggest you look at Marshalls or TJ Maxx. The selection and price is very very reasonable. I shopped around in asia (China and HK) and even at the best discounts, I was within $15 of Marshalls' prices for a carry-on..

For example: For a good carryon, Marshall/TJMaxx is $40-60. (don't trust the website description! confirm the dimensions with a tape measure! Many airlines will check and deny your carryon!!) Even if you use it once a year, its worth the extra $10-20. American Tourist is almost the lowest end of luggage.. You mind as well buy the $25 carryon at WalMart. Having said that. If you want disposable luggage, a $60 set (3 piece) from WalMart and a good luggage strap (or duct tape) will work well. The worst thing that can happen is you lose a wheel or a handle...no big deal. (Cheap luggage is great if you don't want people stealing your stuff).

Having said that, the Skyway and Ricardo looks very interesting. I'm going to the local store to check them out.

The MSRP price way over priced so the actual savings is less then what is stated. Do check around to see the difference in price you are actually getting. For example one of the suitcase has a MSRP of $300 and Sears is selling for $59. The manufacturer is selling for $119 with free shipping and no tax for me so the actual savings is less than 50%. I prefer to buy my luggage from Target B&M when it goes on clearance where you can actually get a true 75% savings. You might want to check Boscov's (boscov.com) prices as they are about the same as Sears.

Good deal on the 17 inch ordered 2.
For the others one can find small decent underseat sizes for $20 in Chinatown in NYC, $30-$35 for very large cases, but if you don't have that option where you live this is OK.
With the 50 pound limit now, the cheap ones are not only big enuff but the fact that they are lightly built is now a PLUS instead of MINUS-you can take more stuff.
The last one I bought died after about 5 multi-stop international trips-got more than my money's worth.
Oh yeah, and the girlfriend's genuine Louis Vitton suitcase that cost a gazillion dollars was stolen but mine wasn't - gee, what a surprise......

The actual measurements on the 2nd one show it to be 24" which is getting damn big for carry on. Especially if you load it up.

Yea, but cheap quality means problems. As frequent traveler I learned long ago to avoid cheap luggage (not low cost, but cheap quality). Eagle Creek is one of my favorite, but it can be expensive (worth it IMO, but expensive). REI brand is a great alternative. And they often close out odd colors. My standard duffel is a REI that is extremely light weight and was on clear out for like $40 cause of the odd color (which makes it super easy to find among all those black bags).

Actually, from my travel experience, that means nothing. Your luggage will get tossed like all others, and your expensive hard shell will crack too. Why not just replace a cheap one instead of crying over some Samsonite?

Also, you can stuff more into a soft luggage than a Samsonite.

The upright actually doesn't qualify for a carry-on. In USA, most airlines' limit is 45" (length+width+depth. Practically speaking, anything longer than 22" or thicker than 12" thick will give you trouble fitting in the overhead, resulting in dirty looks and being forced to "gate check".

The shipping cost on the Delsey made it a total of $42. Hot enough to order it, IMHO. I needed something like this and it goes with my Delsey carry on.

Thanks crazypalooza!
