"Factory Direct Warranty"

No mention of the warranty length, or whether or not these are refurbs. Nevermind, clicking the picture takes you to the product page, where it says "Factory Recertified", 180-day warranty.

Not the greatest deal, but if you don't mind refurb and want to save about $10, this deal is for you.

While I thank you for posting, However it seems that there are many posts on Refurb drives from Geeks.com that is only $5 cheaper then new drives. I don't really see how this are good deals...

Doesn't seem worth it due to the warranty. Good price on the 750gb one too, but same deal (refurb, 180 day warranty). Thanks anyway.

DONT buy refurb hard drives, I dont care if they are FREE I would never use one. Not worth the risk of losing your data.

I LAUGH at people who speak of hard drive warranties. 99% of people will simply buy a new hard drive the DAY of failure and not bother with the warranty process.

Warranty means nothing when your data is lost becuase nobody give a crap about the $$$ cost of a hard drive compared to the importance of data.

More likely, the other way around. You get the old crappy internal components in a shiny new case.

I told them not to, but they said take the refurb or nothing. I took the refurb and 7 months later the two 160's had failed as well, conveniently outside the 1 year warranty. I learned my lesson then and there, NEVER trust a refurb ANYTHING. Even if it is FREE it will cost you in the long run.

The thing about refurb is, when you send your failed brand, spanking new hard drive back to the manufacturer, they will send you a refurb drive as replacement.

The minute you open that brand, spanking new drive it becomes used. And when it fails, you will get a refurbed unit as replacment.

I don't mind buying refurbed drive and use them as external data storage. My booting drive are new drives only.

That said, $50 for a 500gb is not too bad a deal if it's shipped free, and you don't pay taxes.

If you have to pay taxes and shipping, then it's not a good deal at all.

For comparison's sake, Directron has a brand new WD 500 for $65 shipped.

Geeks.com has them as their deal of the day, $40 each, limit 2.
