$39.99 is not a bad price but who in their right mind would buy it for $167.99 + $29.99 shipping through the Amazon affiliated vendor?
Does the costco model also come with two handsets? Could you lookup the item number from the receipt and post it here?

It does come with 2 handsets! I bought 2 of these systems because they work very well and the battery life in standby is stellar. It has almost all the features of an expensive Panasonic set that I bought at costco some time ago. I used to be a Panasonic fanboy and after purchasing this model.... Oh...I bought 2 since I can program all 4 handsets to one base station. $80 for a 4 handset system is an excellent deal.

Yes, that is a good idea. I myself have done the same thing with a very old vtech phone by purchasing used two handset system for the same price as a new single additional handset and changing the baseid (reprogram). I may have to replace it soon as the handsets are starting to die after 7 years of use.

Thanks, our costco has them in stock for the same price, will go get them soon.
If you're in love with the handsets, just go to Radio Shack and get new batteries for them. No more than $14 OTD.
Do these hand sets display the clock while not in use? I know most Uniden phone don't have that feature. Can you customize the banner like Guest room or Master room?

You can set banners such as Guestroom, etc. The phone displays the time, but not the date. The sound quality is very good. The display and "GUI" are exactly the same as a Uniden that I bought about 5 years ago. Great little phone, amazing for $40. Picked up one at the Northbrook, IL store. Had about 30 on display.
The one problem I have with this phone is that they dont come with wall mount brackets. I ordered a wallmount on UnidenDirect and they are back ordered. Otherwise the phone is good.
My 5.8ghz Unidens display have the day, time, banner name, and how many caller id's. Does this phone have all that displayed when on stand by mode? Also, does it copy phone entries to all hand sets?
I finally got one and had a brief look at the manual before even trying to use the phone and here are my observations. I purchased two uniden 2.4ghz phone systems so far, one about 5yrs ago and another very recently (both for my parents). They both had pretty much same set of features and same interface, but this one seems to be different. The main differences are:
- has no room monitoring feature (was quite useful when we visited them without a baby monitor). But this is not an daily use feature, so no big deal.
- Handsets are much bigger. Not sure if this is a plus or minus, but the previous smaller handsets were pretty comfortable, so I would prefer the smaller size.
- has no 2-way radio mode. This is not a useful feature, as it doesn't give much range anyway (just a few feet), so it doesn't matter.
- comes with nicad batteries, not nimh. This is the biggest gripe I have. With nimh batteries, we have gotten to the habit of not waiting for the battery level to go all the way down before putting the handset in the charger, but with nicad batteries, this will definitely reduce the battery life.
Compared to the $50 price I paid for 3 handset 2.4ghz system at Staples about 5 months back, I wouldn't consider this price hot (especially for the fact that uniden seems to purposely cutdown on some features to bring the price down). Also, this seems like a regular price at cocstco, so we might see this item for a while at this price. I am sure black friday will have better deals, so will most probably return this.
