I was at Fry's picking up a headset for the kid brother when I saw the box and price at the $899. I did a double take and proceeded to hug it to avoid scalpers while my wife grabbed a salesman.

They had 2 similar models with the bulb, this was the only one with the LED. They did however have several 73" Mitsubishi units and several in the 40 to 60" range of varying brands.

That model number doesnt correspond with an LED DLP.

You need one of the models ending in A750 - like HL67A750 for the 67" or HL61A750 for the 61"

"Available in three large screen sizes: 50-, 56-, and 61-inch - the HL-T5087S, HL-T5687S and HL-T6187S models, Samsung's new flagship series are the industry's first slim depth DLP TVs that are LED-Light Source based."

GREAT set. This was the first-generation LED DLPs. They had some variance issues with the green LEDs, so just check to make sure that the color looks right. Awesome picture and that is an unreal price.

these samsung dlp tvs are, imho, the best tvs ever made. too bad the rear projection sets are being phased out, as they are far superior to that grainy LCD crap.

And to think I paid $3,100 for a 1st gen 1080p model... Good find Cave, but I doubt anyone here will be so lucky...

I want one, but fail to see how this thread helps me or how this is a hot deal for anyone other than the OP who got lucky and scored a deal that no one else can get. I'd like to be wrong - can someone explain how I get in on this? If I drive to Plano TX, are there many more of these open box 61" TVs for sale at $899?

The OP got lucky, he shared the info with you, now you know, so go look around in Frys around your area, maybe you'll get lucky too....but judging from your post....you probably won't share the info with us if u get one.

Thanks OP, this will be something I keep my eyes open for the next time I'm at Fry's.

I can try to swing by there and see what models are available. As said in my original post there were a total of 3 61" available although this was the only LED one. Also there was a pair of 73" Mitsubishis for sub $1500 models WD-7373 and a WD 7374.

Numerous 50 to 60" DLP's rear projection and then a line of 42"+ LCD's and Plasmas. None that I saw were bad deals. I posted the original to inform people of the clearance and insane deals that were going on with them.

No, the OP's TV is just last years model. LED DLPs are actually pretty new. The ones that UAIron was referring to when he said they have to end in A750 are this years models.

Also, at the Fry's in Downers Grove, IL, the open boxes were waaaay overpriced, around $1200 for the same one OP found. Go elsewhere.
