This isn't for everyone as it's bleeding edge tech, but if you are looking to supercharge a Laptop(Or desktop with adapter)than this,OCZ OCZSSD2-1C128G Core Series 128GB SATA II MLC Solid State Drive (SSD) Retail is for you at $299 AR this is some cool stuff.
Your best bet is to keep your OS and Apps on this, and use a cheap regular drive for "Storage"
P.S. this can also be used in a PS3

More hard drive capacity doesn't change the fact that these still use the bad jmicron controller. You can get the 64gb version for $100 AR if you look around so this is hardly hot. You're paying $200 extra for $100 worth of storage. Since the best use for these are in a desktop (write issues), getting 2 64gb ones is preferable. Or if you actually are going to spend $300 on one of these, may as well wait and spend a little more to get an Intel SSD.

Whats wrong with the controller, and how much for a 128gb with the good one?

With respect to the Jmicron controller, search at Anandtech for his article. Very extensive writeup.

With full knowledge of the controller issues, I bought the Patriot 32GB SSD as the system drive for my new build. By taking the necessary precautions (re-directing system writes away from the SSD), I am pretty happy with the performance of the PC. Yes, once in a while, I experience a hangup of an application for a second or two. But on the whole, pretty acceptable.

Bottomline, with knowledge, you can take advantage of the inventory dumping prices for the current gen of SSD. If you're not willing or able to modify your windows set up, it's best to just wait for the next generation to come out.

What is the point of having SSD if it also requires a traditional hard drive to handle all the system read/writes to achieve any resemblance of traditional hard drive performance? The ONLY reason to get SSD is to get rid of traditional hard drives. Bottom line MLC based SSD is crap and with the exception of some non-PC embedded applications where read/writes are minimal you are going to be disappointed. The suggested fix above is like putting a Mercedes hood emblem on your AMC Pacer. It makes no difference what appears to be upfront you still have a POS inside.
