In my opinion, instead of $1/day, they should be paying you about $100/day for the rehoming of their vehicles. If you happen to be traveling between any two of these quite unusual location, more power to you. Chances are highly unlikely that many people will be able to use this offer.

They do this every year to redistribute cars from the summer hot spots to the southern areas as need drops off (it's always northeat to Florida around here). The should be paying for gas as well as rental fees since their next choice is hiring car carriers to do the job which would cost plenty. Still it's a nice way to put wear and tear on someone else's car if you want or need to take the road trip, but as stated above, it's a pretty slim group who could use it.

You know, there is unlimited mileage with this. Rental car for a LONG trip and return somehwere as close as you can find. And you can do it for 10 days max. I thought I'd see if they would do it for a year, but no go. Oh well...

This is the best one-way car rental deal I have ever seen. You may not find a bookable car on the Dollar Rent A Car website. However, you can try carrentals.com to find this excellent deal. I reserved a mid-size car between Oct 24 and Nov 1. It only costs me no more than $40!! Thanks, mastavic!!

Anybody able to calculate how much it will cost in gas (assuming avg cost per gallon) for a trip from NYC JFK to Miami for example?

Well it is a 1,301 mile trip, assuming you rented a compact car that got ~30mpg you would consume 43.366667 gallons of gas. Not sure of gas prices on the east coast, but at $2.50 a gallon that is $108 and around 21 hours of drive time. At $2.00 a gallon (if it's that low) it would be $87.

I tried booking a car from las vegas to lax from 11/19 - 11/28. It stated that there are mandatory charges of $38 which includes a $3/ day facility fee.... How is everyone else getting the cost of rental for lower? Thanks

Seems like their florida locations are running low on cars.

Great work, but I guess if u can get a ticket from JFK to Palm Beach for $79.00 it is best for families----Are we there yet!!!

Great work! Don't forget to add a ton of tolls (East Coast, remember?), extra gas for side-trips, and extra cost for hotels n meals.

Disagree...
Flying might be cheaper for ONE person, but driving will be cheaper per head for families.
