The Panny is marginally better. The picture of the Westy is a little more digitized and harsh looking and the Panny is softer and more natural looking. Both are pretty bad at standard def compared to older CRT's though, so I avoid SD on both if at all possible.

Which Orange County?

This is fundamentally flawed argument. There are many factors that have contributed to the fall in prices of these TVs. My fear is that misconceptions like this are going to have an impact on the upcoming election.

That is a fundamentally flawed fear...you see, most people will vote for whoever the TV tells them to vote for. The price of TV's has nothing to do with it.

Especially if the TV only gets FOX news. !!!!And if the tv only gets the "C"ommunist "N'ews "N"etwork!

I ask...
Does it matter why the price is low, I think not.

I have a panny...480i via digital cable box with HDMI looks great..yes 720P is fantastic..but 480 is damm good.

Now..if using directly via the coax input without box..it not as good since that resolution is far less than 480i (someone might know what the quality of analog via coax input but I think its probably 260 to 300i at best)

Cant avoid SD...too much stuff on TV that is SD.

For those SD lovers..the panasonic using mimimum 480i looks great when the source is recent..i.e recent movies or tv programs..but programs from the past like Sanford and Son and all in the family..just dont cut it.

Regular news channels at 480i look great (considering not using full 720p)

panansonic 50 inch tv, 720p

Starting in 1998, the new WEC has licensed the famous brand for use on a multitude of products, some (though not all) of which were in similar categories to those sold by the historic version of the company. It should be noted that, though these products advertise the Westinghouse name, they are neither manufactured by the historic Westinghouse company nor are the quality standards necessarily actively maintained by WEC.

I spent a ton of money on a Sony TV that broke outside of warranty and is now worthless
my 32" Element LCD that I got on BF a couple years back is going strong (and I bought it for half the price of a branded TV) --- I'll never waste money on high end brand again

I use to buy Sony...great quality..but it would fail and I was not happy. Also they had the worst warranty....like 90 days on stuff versus 1 yr for other brands...did not like 90..since it would break on 91 days.

DayTrader said:My co-worker has a Westinghouse bought in 2006. It no longer works and all he did was attach it to a cable box here and plug it into a surge protector. One day, it just stopped working. He didn't use it everyday and it's in great shape with no dents and scratches.

Can't find parts for it and it's cheaper to just buy a brand new one.

Good point - be careful with this brand. Aftermarket parts do not exist, even for repair shops.

The Deal is good, but now is very close to BF.
For current economy, there should be more than normal super deals coming.
The 32" might go as low as $399 name brand ~ $299 no name brand ?

Can this be used as a compter monitor?

Just picked up 2 in Kansas City. While I was loading 2 into my cart, 3 others were bought. The other folks couldn't believe the price.

I bought one in Plano, TX this weekend. Can't beat the price. The TV picture in nice off a standard cable. Better when you get a box. Costco had a lot of these available.

you know the economy is bad when a 32" set all of a sudden hits the $400 mark.

You meant to say "you know capitalism is working when a 32" set all of a sudden hits the $400 mark."

I have to say it's a great world to live in when people think falling prices on high-end electronics is a sign of hard times!

capitalism doesn't work. By definition if one person is making out, someone else is getting screwed. The only thing that prevented this before was the illusion of unlimited oil/energy at minimal cost. If you're getting the TV cheap, that means the store/manuf is getting less money which means cutbacks on either future products or current workforce.

And where did you do your economics training---Peoples' Republic University? Trade and markets create wealth and Costco and the consumer (as well as agents up and down the chain) are made better off as a result of the exchange. Obviously, Costco believes they are best off by charging this price to move the units and consumers such as myself (I purchased one yesterday) believe the TV is worth at least 399--otherwise, we both would allocate our resources differently and the TV would still be in the store rather than in my bedroom. This is as good as "spreading the wealth around." What puzzles me the most is why one with such a perverse view of markets would bother with a 'deals site." Were you in my class--an F for intuition!

PS, social planners needed in North Korea--you should apply!

Tribal communities have existed for thousands of years. The American capitalist society is teetering right now based on its need for oil after a couple hundred years. If you want a society to endure you need to ahve some sort of social responsibility...... i.e. 50 people driving hybrids don't help much when there's 10000 driving Escalades.

LOL. Uh, take freshman economics, bro. It's not a zero-sum game. You've been listening to people telling you what a victim you are for far too long.

Was at Costco today and they are selling their 32" LCD Westinghouse TV for $399. It has two HDMI ports.

Model number SK-32H540S. 720P/1080i.

90 day return, 2nd year warranty free from costco
2 HDMI Ports
1 VGA Ports
1 Component inputs
2 Composite inputs

What Costco store (i.e. address?) did you observe this sale? I assume you are from SD. Thanks.

Milford (CT) Costco has a bunch of them. The picture is pretty good next to the Samsung and Sony nearby. I do not know the reliability of Westinghouse products but Costco warranty is very comforting.

So can you guys clarify what the Costco warranty is currently on a tv purchase?
