I just received mine today. I have to LS-500GL-R and mine DOES have 2 usb ports for additional HD's.

Can anyone help me out. I have a macbook pro... how do I work this thing? I have NO clue. Plug it in my wireless router... and I see it on my computer but how I secure it and all that other stuff. Any help would help.

My two are scheduled for tomorrow delivery. My confirmation email says:

Buffalo 500GB (NAS Gigabit Eth
ernet) External Hard Drive ( L
part # BFFL LS-500GL-R

It sounds like you may have clicked a different link for one of the other drives?

the usbs are only there to add most external harddrives. You can connect your computer via usb.

you mean 'you cannot' right ? Try as I might, XP would not recognize the drive via USB. Via ethernet it is fine.

sorry. What I ment to say is that you can NOT connect via usb.

I have the correct ports, but a 320 gb drive is installed in the case. The correct model number sticker is on the bottom--I can't wait to call eCost tomorrow and get the run around--obviously it's somehow me trying to scam them.

I got my order today, two LS-500GL-R. That is what the stickers on the cardboard boxes say. Unfortunately, one of the drives is LS-250GL-R, according to the sticker on the bottom of the drive. It is indeed 250GB, and is missing the software.

eCost sucks. Check your drives!

actually I wouldn't be surprised it is the fault of someone who returned the original device by upgrading to a higher drive for an older drive. Either way it does sound like a nightmare. Mines come tomorrow and I'm already on edge... None of you mention what version (v1 or v2) your linkstations are.

they're own ineptitude caused mine to go to "backorder," so I cancelled the order. And I thought I was missing out...HA! Not so much

Received my order today, got the correct drive and it works GREAT!!
The packaging left something to be desired, but got it up and running with no issues.

Sorry to hear others had problems. Anyone else have a good report?

got my two today. I had a lot of trial and error. It's difficult to gauge where one is at during the process. I first attempted to flash mine with the freelink firmware, but I kept getting a message that the /boot directory was full, so I ended up putting both drives in my machines and repartitioned some extra space. Once that was done I had some additional trouble and thought I'd bricked one of them - didn't help that I had two different hardware revisions. Finally I was able to get Debian onto both of them and it's just a matter of locking them down, setting up samba, and then playing with whatever servers I desire. I started to setup rtorrent on one, but one of the repositories is offline, anyhow it's late - after putting in about 5 hours of hacking I figure tomorrow I will be completely victorious. 1 terabyte, now bring on the cheap USB expansion!
