He called the Sprint number and he was told I can only get a phone through employee telesales because of the plan I was on. I left the store, spent an hour on the phone with Sprint Customer care and finally talked to a really nice lady who noted my account to tell Best Buy to sell me the phone as an upgrade. I walked back in the store, told the same sales guy I spoke to earlier to call and get it ok'ed. He did and I walked out with my new Touch Pro. No questions regarding data and my phone accesses the internet just fine. Good luck everyone and thanks OP.
this worked for me, and should work for everybody else on SERO as long as BB is willing to sell you the phone. call sprint retentions, and explain the situation to them - tell them you want a note placed on your account. they will either do it for you, or forward your call to sprint corporate, who will do it. once that note is on your account, have BB call sprint to activate the phone and everything will work.

Went to BB in Porter Ranch, California (near Northridge and Chatsworth) and had no problems at all even with the SERO 500 plan. Presented my 20% coupon, had a little gift card to bring the price down and now I'm a proud owner of the new phone!

I think he said they had only 4 and now there's 1 left so hurry!

Exactly, I went further to call Sprint a few hours after leaving Bestbuy to confirm my plan had not changed in any way. I believe everything is fine. I absolutely Love the phone. Now we need a great price on a 16GB Micro SDHC card

I'm still a bit confused -

If I go to BB and buy the phone with the 20% discount, AND i'm eligible for the $150 upgrade credit, will I receive the upgrade credit automatically after BB adds the phone to my account, or will i have to call sprint and have them credit my account?

thanks

The $150 upgrade credit only applies to Sprint.com and their selection, BB has their own pricing system for upgrades and new lines. In the case of the Touch Pro, the upgrade price AND new line price are both $299, so as long as your line is eligible for an upgrade, you'll get the $299 price. I'm convinced that this deal is better than what Sprint themselves will have on Nov 4th so I'd jump on it while you still can.

with 2 months left on a 24 contract, sprint.com usually offers a $250 discount on a new phone. assuming this phone will cost the same as the HTC Mogul at $550, this phone will cost $299 on the site. this is a somewhat better deal.

Not to mention the fact that Sprint almost never gives you a deal without it involving a MIR

i tried the inventory, shows in stock. went to the store, says out of stock. went back home to see if they went out of stock during my drive time, still says in stock

bummer.

Being eligible for the $150 upgrade credit is equivalent to getting the same pricing as if you were activating a new line. You don't get an add'l $150 from sprint. If you weren't eligible, you'd have to pay the full price on the phone and not the promo price.

Are the SERO plan people getting this deal out of contract or at least eligible for the upgrade offers? or is BB just giving these at the same price in-contract or not?

LightWallet said:Well, I don't know how they did it. Everytime I've called Sprint to add the Instinct phone to my acct they were never able to do it due to the requirement. I'm also aware and have even mentioned to the rep that some people were able to get the phone without changing their plans.

I'm glad to be wrong if that is the case 'cuz I have the Diamond and would like to switch to the Pro myself. But I think some of you were able to get it through a 3rd party retailer that perhaps had a loophole or glitch. At this point, I don't know how some people are able to get it while others can't. But that is the requirement.

AFAIK the Instinct is the only phone so far that sprint has required an everything plan on. Just because they did it on that phone does not mean that it is their new policy on all new smart phones. This in not some glitch, many people have gotten the diamond and now the touch pro without switching.

Nobody is saying that is the new policy for all new smartphones. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember seeing somewhere that the Pro requires an Everything type plan or a $25+ data plan. That is a similar requirement to the Instinct.

San Diego WorstBuy does not carry Sprint. I was hopeing to get a Treo 800W, which is $199 on the WorstBuy web site. Pink Shirt mobile CSRs told me to drive 60 miles to Temecula or Murietta to get a Sprint phone. Spoke with a "Customer Experience Manager" who apologized, claiming he couldn't even order one for me online.

Thanks to this thread I picked up 2 htc touch pro's today for the wife and I from best buy for $239 + tax. Also there is an $18 activation fee per line. My sero plan looks to be intact. Oddly enough I don't have picture mail. Don't know why, but I don't think I noticed it before since my treo didn't have that functionality.

I gotta love it overall. My old phone was a treo 700wx so a lot of goodness has happened since.

Anyone planning to get a bigger SDHC card than the 1gb that comes with?

What are you guys doing for GPS software? Just using live or someone planning to get tomtom or garmin mobile xt?

Is it confirmed that you can get the $299, even if you're only eligible for the 1 year discount on sprint.com?

Most of California BBs do not currently carry Sprint phones in their stores. I was told they will start carrying Sprint phones closer to the holidays, sometime in November.

I was just past my first year of a 2 year SERO, and I got the $299 price.

Given the experiences in this thread, I'd say that there is a pretty decent chance you can get away without any updates to your data plan. The "official" Sprint price is $299 after $100 MIR and the requirement for a >$25 data plan or everything plan. But Bestbuy clearly did not get that memo. How long that'll last is anyones guess.
