Save some serious dough while driving a stake through electricity vampires' hearts!

Amazon is offering the Belkin (BG108000-04) Conserve 8-Outlet Surge Protector with Remote Switch (White) for a low $32 AR, free shipping and no tax for most. Additionally, you qualify for $10 rebate in lieu of a free sub to Wired magazine (one per customer). This brings the price down to a cool $22 (less than half the going price in most places). Icing in the cake? if you use your participating Amazon Visa, you get some nice bonus points on the full price.

I could not find any limits for the $15 rebate submissions. Must purchase by 11/19/08.

I'm not sure what happened to my product link, but here it is again: Linked

$15 rebate form

Wired mag/$10 rebate info

How about a Link for Pete's sake.

Thanks for the advice

I'll add to the tittle.

Anyone else find it interesting that a device curtailing standby energy consumption does just the opposite by having its own standby power for the remote? Granted, this will draw power only for itself, but one with a manual switch is the way to go if you are really concerned about saving energy. Bend down to turn the switch on/off - get some excersise!

alright, already! I changed the darn thing.

Those who can read PAST the (old) title might just find this to be a good deal, if they are in the market for one of these.

This looks like a good deal. Buy.com has it now for $38.24 and it does not qualify for any rebates. The $22 deal is much better.

Thanks OP. Good deal.

Bring on the red...
A remote requires standby energy; a manual switch does not. Therefore, if you really want to save as much energy as possible, use a strip with a manual switch rather than this one with a remote. Still it is a great product if it is too inconvenient to reach a manual strip, or if you are too lazy to to bend down and flip the switch on a manual one.

From hardcore energy savers perspective this Belkin will do a fine job.

However for most users who *might* forget switching off, this is a simpler solution.
http://www.smarthomeusa.com/ShopByManufacturer/Bits-Ltd./Item/LCG3/

It is about $30 at AMZ.

Best part is, it automatically switches off other devices
example1: you switch off the computer, then all peripherals turn off.
example2: you switch off the TV, then all other devices turn off - DVD Player, Receiver, DVR, Gaming consoles, ...

It is still not quire near Belkin's solution, but very very practical.

Amount of energy the remote requires is extremely small compared to the effort of switching off, especially in a house with kids.

That way compare the amount of energy lost in charged batteries even in freezer
Better yet, use a Solar charger to charge as many devices, batteries as possible, don't use dryer, walk or use bicycle rather than drive, list is endless for someone who is determined to save battery.

That is funny, I never knew that it was there, when I log in under my screen name that is not visible to me. I had to log out to see it.
