Amazon is offering an instant $100 rebate for the camera kit with additional lens purchase combo [A Canon promo see below]. They also are providing the UV filter for free. Both discounts will be reflected at check out.
Item(s) Subtotal: $627.09 Shipping & Handling: $0.00 Promotion Applied: -$6.99 Promotion Applied: -$100.00 ----- Total Before Tax: $520.10 Estimated Tax: $0.00 ----- Grand Total: $520.10
This package with an extra lens comes out cheaper than the Rebel XS kit, which lists for $599.95, can be found elsewhere. The lens does get marginal reviews (4 stars)from Amazon users, but seems to be a good entry level package for someone moving into dSLR. Folks mainly complain about softness and lack of image stabilization. However, the lens after discount coming to $45 helps me overcome some of those reservations. Sure, you can buy a better lens, but it will be much more money. The availablity of the lens from Amazon and not 3rd party sellers seems to be coming and going. The lens price also seems to be going up and down a little. It has been available for short periods of time, three or four times over the last two days. Twice I couldn't get the deal completed before the lens went out of stock. The offer is part of a Canon promotion, which is running until January 17. So if you watch the item, you should be able to get this deal.
If you want to try to use the Canon discount at another retailer the info on the instant rebate can be found Canon Link
Total Before Tax: $533.66 Estimated Tax: $0.00 Order Total: $533.66

Discounts are applied at checkout. So, just proceed to checkout and it will show promotions applied. The Canon items must be purchased from Amazon and not a marketplace seller to obtain the promotional discount. Hope that helps.

You have to add only those are sold by Amazon and not other sellers.
I bought a camcorder from Butterfly Photo a couple of years ago. No real problems that I can recall. Their "package deals" are a rip off though. Just get the camera and get your accessories somewhere else.
just bought Canon Rebel XSi 12.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Silver) for $639.00 shipped minus $191.70 Live CashBack....so my total is $447.30 worth it? or cancel this and get XS with extra stuff?

For those of you that pick this up, Amazon has the XS/XSI starter kit with extra battery, nice bag and filter for 69.99. This is the cheapest I have seen it.

wow incredible price for the xsi !! Where did you get it ???? the other lens 70-300 is below average.. But when you get it at 50-60$ , you can play around with it for sometime and dump it at eBay later...
BTW - canon has a 100$ off on the 55-250 IS lens (best lens right now at that price range) with the xsi...
