Don't feel too bad, I picked 2 up at $180

Hmm... ~$104 for 1.5TB Seagate or ~$65 for 1TB Hitachi...

In any case, thanks OP.

TigerDirect has it for $119.99 with $1.99 shipping. You can get 15% CashBack through MS Livecash. Total = $103.98 shipped after shipping and CashBack.

I now have (2) 1.5tb drives for my EX470 homeserver... 2 more to go.I'm only seeing 5% from TD, what am I doing wrong?

please elaborate more. I am also in the boat for getting 2 of 1.5TB for EX470 server.

When I did a search on live.com for items I kept getting a 5% link for TD but when I typed "Tiger Direct" in the search window, 15% link showed up.

Thanks, just got 2 of this baby at TD. Will hook it up with EX470.

Btw, do you guys take out the stock 500GB or just leave it as the system drive? I guess 500GB is good for system drive.

My understanding is that WHS is not using any hardware RAID. It might use software RAID.

I just worry about if one of this drive fail, I might lose all of data.

Anyway, 3.5TB should be enough for me. I plan to use it as share folders and web/app/db servers. no need to do PC backup though.

And my 15% CB shows up now.

Bought $100 Dell gift card codes from eBay @ 10% off face + 25% Live CashBack then used those combined with 3% Dell Home CashBack (from here) to buy my 2 drives for $75 ea. shipped to my door. It saved me about $25 more per drive and should work great for the HP EX470 Home Server that just showed up.

Thanks OP!

Just bought another one going this route and my end cost after FatCash and live.com is $65.40
Thanks again OP & mikes929292

I bought a 1TB from Dell about a month ago and I do notice the drive shuttering. I have ran several diagnostics on the drive and can not get it to fail a single test, but I do notice that it will freeze up for a few seconds at a time, and then immediately resume operations as normal.

One thing to note when considering TD or the Egg. The Egg allows returns with in 30-days while TD is clear that once you sign for the package the drive is your problem. For some the approximately $13.00 between the two (given the Eggs 2.75% CashBack) may be worth less than the ability to return a drive to the vendor given its history. I went with TD anyway but I have my doubts now.

it seems that this is what TigerDirect has been saying about anything it has been putting on sale lately? SVA 24" was the same

I recently RMA'ed a DOA drive back to Newegg and an older drive to Seagate. The Seagate RMA process was much better. Newegg's RMA process required me to send the drive back at my own expense (despite the fact that it was DOA) which cost roughly $9 UPS. Once Newegg received the drive, they sent a replacement; a total of 1.5-2 weeks total time.

With Seagate, I did an "advanced replacement" option for $20. Submitted the RMA on Monday, replacement drive was shipped Tuesday via 2nd day UPS, and will include a pre-paid return label. So for +$11 I cut 1.5 weeks time and it's far more convenient for me b/c I don't have to find a box, package the drive, make a label, etc.

In other words, if your TD drive is bad, don't sweat it. The return process is easier with Seagate and, for a couple extra bucks, very convenient.

I just ordered 2 from TD. Being in California didn't have to worry about tax and shipping was only 2 bucks. Also did 2 HIS 4850 cards in the order. Might as well save on shipping. With the 15% CashBack makes the whole bundle a pretty good deal when building a new system.

If you are maxed out or weary about live CashBack, CompUSA (owned by tiger) is another option
2 drives, ($119 x 2) - (4% CashBack) - ($20 paypal off $200) + $1.99ship = $105.24 per drive shipped. No Tax for me in NJ.

I have returned 3 drives to Seagate (one I wrapped in foam for noise reduction, but must have gottent too hot, one I dropped, a third just died after 3 years 24x7 use). Easy return process. Once they sent me back a better drive (+20 extra GB). Much better than Newegg RMA process which I have had trouble with in the past.

Almost clicked submit on the TigerDirect order then I saw tax in TX, which killed the deal or atleast no better than the deal from OP w/Newegg. Ah well.

K, with the 30% live CB on eBay, got this for $93.08 shipped after CB from live. This beats the TigerDirect deal esp for me since I live in TX and would have to pay tax. If my math is right, works out to be a little over 6cents/gig. All I can say is OMG, this is insane.

Is that 4% from FW CashBack you are referring to? That's better than live's 2.5% for Newegg anyway.

Is it safe to get a HD from a eBay seller? At least with Newegg, they'll ship you another one if it comes up fugged up. I dont think the eBay guys are that great about returns.

Also the cheapest I saw on eBay was 148... It will still cost $103 shipped, which is a $17 difference from Newegg. I'm not sure if saving $17 is worth the hassle in case the drive comes in inoperable.
