I just received my refurb TXXSR505 from Club Onkyo. It was $124 shipped. Receiver looked brand new. All accessories were included except for the batteries for the remote. Warranty is 1 year compared to 2 tears for a new unit. |

rigor said:606/706/806 have junki dcdi on them. you will have issues with some hdmi inputs too. prob why there are so many refurbs.
go for the 905/906 Dunno why all the negative comments about the 500/600 line. The 605/606 etc are very well regarded as one of the best HDMI bang/buck receivers that support hi-rez audio (Yamaha VX670?? IIRC) being the other. The 506 isn't as well decked out but for a basic HT receiver it's a great deal at $150 shipped. The DCDi deinterlacing is better than the deinterlacer in most TVs. If you have better you probably don't need it anyway. I've got a 360, TiVo HD, PS3, Reon-based HD-DVD player, and Wii all hooked up - nothing that outputs 480i - so who cares? The only issue I have with my 605 is the component video -> HDMI conversion has a bit of white crush - seems only the early firmware versions (I have main firmware 1.0) because most folks on AVS have no such problem. Pretty minor. HDMI is a bit flaky at times no matter what. Stupid copy protection stuff makes it annoyingly finicky. My 605 has no real problems. In fact I run 2 devices -> Pelican quick switch automatic switcher -> into one input and the TiVo HD into the other. And split with a manual splitter between a projector and an LCD. Quite the complicated setup. Once in a great while I need to power cycle the receiver to get the signal working again. That's pretty much the only problem I get. |

yeah the whole point though is to concentrate all inputs without any glitches. that is why there are so many on the refurb site. and the 506 was $97 a few weeks back for a silver one on refurb shoponkyo. i've got the invoice for one sitting here. not sure why they move the price up and down so much. |

will i hear any audio from a movie or not Of course you will get sound from the receiver - why else would it be there. Like you said, just zero out the sound from the monitor speakers and you are all set. |

Does it sound okay?
Does the AM/FM radio work as it should?
I am looking for a new sound system for my garage. Would this fit the bill? Yes |

No. You won't get sound from the receiver. The HDMI ports on this unit are simply a passthrough switch, as has already been stated. The receiver passes the hdmi onto the TV but does not decode the audio signal. As for why would it be there? Because it convinces people who don't know any better to buy it. Like you. And those who listen to you. |

Of course you will get sound from the receiver - why else would it be there. Like you said, just zero out the sound from the monitor speakers and you are all set. 506 will NOT process audio via HDMI. He will need to use the optical out on the PS3 for audio. I wish manufacturers would be more clear about this but why would they? It confuses people into buying. JamesD1343, you will need to buy something like a 606 to get audio processing through HDMI. Expect to spend at least $350. |

He won't get sound from the receiver nor the TV, if the sound on that tv is off. To explain in simple terms: 505 - HDMI (xbox360) -> 505 -> TV (Video and Sound works) - HDMI (xbox360) -> 505 -> TV (video works) 7.1c speaker (does not work) unless toslink or coxial 606 - HDMI works all with TV and 7.1c speaker |

thanks all this is how i understood it as i read it but wanted to be certain. reviews on Amazon and Newegg confirm this also. one of the dumbest misleading options i think ive ever seen in a receiver. |
