You mean, to make $$$...???

beware some of the FAR's are for upgrade only!

You may want to read some of the reviews on Amazon regarding TT for 2008. I've always used it, but they've made some changes again, not allowing you to print more than one return, etc.

Yeah...I hate it when companies become broken.

That is only the basic one. No state, only 1040 EZ. Move along, wait for Costco or better deal...

NAV 1 user and NIS 3 user are both FAR for BF (and available online now). They have an additional $20 and $30 rebate, respectively, with purchase of tax software. You could potentially make money on each, assuming their system does not kick one out (which I doubt). They're supposedly Easy Rebates, so there's not even an issue of needing extra POP's.

claymoh said: That is only the basic one. No state, only 1040 EZ. Move along, wait for Costco or better deal...WHAT? The free software deal is valid with any of the versions.

I was looking at the linked product, my bad. It seems historically that the normal Costco price is easiest and cheapest, although I have done some heavy leveraging before by padding lots of products and using a coupon, but it was a lot easier years ago. At least Staples is a good rebate place. I have had Staples themselves honor ones after the rebate place turned it down or went bust.

I was just biten by CPG anyway. Who knows which one is next? Big amount rebates (over$10) from manufactures are not good IMO.

you are at big risk of getting red! BEWARE!

Reviews on Turbo Tax 2008

Intuit has taken gas again. Requiring you to be connected to the internet to print your return is bothersome. Charging $10 to print a second return is STUPID. I wonder if they can somehow reverse this policy in mid-stream or else their sales will plunge. Note almost all of the Amazon reviewers gave it 1 star.

Here's an interesting post from the Amazon TT forum

Paula here from H&R Block. TaxCut does not charge to print additional returns. This year TaxCut does include a free federal e-file. For those who are preparing multiple returns, you can elect to either print or e-file the additional returns. Unlike TurboTax, with TaxCut there is no additional charge to print multiple returns.

Additionally, TaxCut software will import from TurboTax software and Quicken. TaxCut Premium Federal also includes one free tax professional consultation and Worry-free Audit support from a live tax professional (not a self-service website) when you e-file your return.

You should also compare the pricing. TaxCut Premium Federal + State + E-file also lowered it's price this year by $20 instead of raising prices to cover the cost of the e-file ($49.95 MRSP). We are committed to providing a great value just when everyone needs it in this economy.

What a crappy deal. Paid tax to get these useless software???

Come on people, be more productive!! OMG!

Don't be so defensive. A deal sucks, then it just sucks no matter how much lipstick on put on the pig face. Paid 10% in CA for these crappy/useless software. Geeze. You are expert at posting crappy deals so I have to red every time. Promised!

I have bought (leveraging deals), but never used TaxCut. This year may be the first to switch. Green for you on posting that info.

TT has been getting bloated, and I think harder to use. The spamware they pushed in a few years back was crazy. I think they are getting too over-confident, and their pricing and tactics are starting to show that in 2008. IMHO.

Also, from what I have read in the CPG threads, the odds are that you will get all of your rebates, one way or the other.

Got more red than OP's green. Who is hotter?

MS Live One Care is listed on the FAR page w/ a price of $19.99 AR. o_O

PS. OIC...there is an upgrader rebate for another $20.

thanks mc. this is an excellent opportunity to turn my rewards check into cash!

Rock on Mr. Cheap!

Have a kiosk order question (sorry it's off topic): can I apply online only coupon on a kiosk order? Is it paid through normal check out? The delima is that I have the online coupon but I want to use gift card or visa debit card from earlier rebates. Can I pay it in store?

I found that coupons are cheaper this year.
They are around $1 to $2
I bought from here:

http://www.e-junkie.com/5188

Some more specifics on the changes in TurboTax this year:

- they used to charge ~$15 for e-file but there was a rebate so you could get that amount back for the first e-file. this year, they are including one e-file "for free" but have raised the price to compensate and there is no rebate for the e-file charge (since it is included in the price).

- in previous years, TurboTax's license terms allowed up to 5 returns to be e-filed (with service charge) per copy of TurboTax. For printed returns, there was no practical limitation, so many people would use the software to prepare additional simple returns for their kids, elderly parents, etc. This year the license has changed to limit usage to the first return only. Any additional returns, whether e-filed or printed, can only be done after paying an additional $10 per return.

basically, Intuit wants to make money per return like a service based business model, but they are still charging the same amount for the software as with a tool-based business model. if they want to charge like a service, then they need to give the software away for free or super cheap. they want to have it both ways.

if intuit sees that TurboTax sales are ok, they'll keep on charging us more. fatwalleters want to get the most for their money so we should avoid TurboTax this year and use taxcut instead.

I don't belive that there is that much difference in the functionality between Turbo Tax and Taxcut. Once the word gets out about this additional charge I predict Turbo Tax sales will plummet.

Did anyone figured out which titles should be purchased on the same receipt?

ANightShopper said: Did anyone figured out which titles should be purchased on the same receipt?Since I think all of them are Easy Rebates, you need to have the tax software on the same receipt as the other software. If you don't, you may be able to mail it in, or if you are lucky, convince a CSR to validate based on your having bought both pieces separately.

May one buy the box software, but use the online version at TurboTax.com instead?

Yeah actually Taxcut even the basic version on Amazon seems to include 5 e-file. They know most people won't do more than one, few will do 2 maybe, so they won't have to pay much more than if including only one. But in addition to the no limitation on printing, they seriously undercut TurboTax on being user friendly.

Having used both in the past to prepare dozens of returns each year, there are very few differences - outside of cosmetic - between the two products so being more user friendly it's what these are about.

I'll probably hold on for a simpler FAR scheme for TT if I get it at all this year.

It looks like TurboTax decided to eliminate the $9.95 per additional charge fee and allows you to do 5 returns and efile each of them for free.

Anyone buy the WebRoot Spy Sweeper stuff? Both products are on the same rebates, which means you can only buy one. Making matters even worse, both want the original UPC, although I think that is fixable, since there is no way they'd advertise something that was not doable. However, I wouldn't get both products.

I tried TaxCut last year because of the price having been a long-time MacInTax/TurboTax user. Overall, TaxCut was fine, but the one feature I missed LOTS was importing directly from your financial institutions. TaxCut dpesn't have any such functionality.

Unfortunately after deciding that I'd go back to TurboTax this year, seems Intuit's pricing games have sullied their reputation once again so I'm voting with my wallet and sticking with TaxCut again this year.

It looks like TurboTax has read/heard the people and have fixed / removed the issue with multiple print outs...
