Note this is First Gen not Second Gen. To upgrade the software Apple Loot Inc. charges an upgrade fee via iTunes. "Upgrade your player with the iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod touch via iTunes for an additional fee" |
Great price!.....but still....should I take a $200 hit to my wallet? |
You never see discounted ipods...in for 1! Thanks OP |
Please help. As a baby boomer, I am not 'up' on these gadgets. Niece wants one but I am unclear on a few things. ...Would she have to subscribe to a service to utilize the internet on this IPOD? How about the other features -- any additional outlay of cash to make this thing work as it is intended? ...What is jailbreak? ...Are these reliable or should I purchase an extended warranty? Thanks a zillion (no billions or trillions left thanks to bailout DC!). Shoot me a pm if you prefer. |
Hereford: No subscription necessary, she can just put any of her mp3's in her pod through itunes. You get the software through apple's website, not sure if it comes packaged with the ipod's anymore... She can also buy new music through itunes, it's easy as pie. |

The internet would only be accessible to her if she has a wireless router at her house, or happens to be close to a public hotspot. Don't confuse this as a device that will get internet anywhere (like the iPhone). 2. Jailbreak pretty much means "hacked". Nothing that you should worry about, I assume if your niece wants to jailbreak it she will figure out how to do it herself (it is easy). 3. I'm not sure how reliable these are (I have an iPhone, not the ipod). I know Apple has a great reputation for quality. I would recommend getting a screen protector on eBay, they are very cheap (less than $5 shipped). I will say that if you want this 16gb version at this price you better buy it quick. I can not believe it is still in stock. If you do miss out on the deal you can get the 8gb for around $230 just about anywhere that sells them (or $200 if you look hard enough online). |

Other than external speakers, what are the differences with Gen 2? If I can just buy the software upgrade, is there anything else I'm missing out on? |
This is a first generation iPod Touch. It DOES NOT have a speaker nor external volume control. If you want to play video games on it, you have to use headphones. |
I was looking for a reason to get rid of my 30gb Ipod Video and my Zen, bet I can cover the cost of this one if I fleabay those old ones huh? Going to order it! |

Also the proc on the 1st gen is underclocked at 412Mhz, same as the iPhone. The Gen two is clocked at 532Mhz (which is still underclocked but not as much and makes it a better game machine.) For music and movies its not a factor. Link for the skeptical The Gen 1 will not work with the new Apple headphones with volume and play control either. It has slightly lower battery life than the Gen 2 as well. People asked what the major differences are. That is it. |
All, I too can't resist getting one. Especially when I have $75 Amazon GC from using their Chase card. My total came to only:$124.99 which is heck of a great deal! I still would wanted a 2GEN version but for this price you can't beat it. Item(s) Subtotal: $199.99

Can someone pls answer my inquiry -- esp, the one regarding if other services (eg, isp sign=up) are necessary for internet use on this Ipod? I'm not techy savvy -- I still use dialup! -- and would greatly appreciate input from all of you tech pros on FW. Sincerely appreciate the kind help! Merry Christmas!! |

You would need to have DSL or Cable Modem ISP speed with a wireless router to make it work. Hopefully this answered your question. Master-Q |
TY Sir MasterQ! One more question...if she is in a public place (mall, visiting relatives in nursing home/hosp, will she be able to access the internet? Is there any charge for using the web on the IPOD? Again, special thanks, |
