I don't understand why there is so much fluctuation in the price of this DSTT. I purchased this on Wednesday for $6.61 shipped, now it's $6.99. I guess since they do business out of Hong Kong, they have their prices pegged to a currency exchange system. So that would explain the constant changes! I love when I answer my own questions...

harlock001 said: For a while, I thought my DSTT from DealExtreme was defective, or just flaky. Finally found two tips to make it operate smooth:
Format the MicroSD card as FAT32, not FAT
Put your files & homebrew in a folder, not the root of the microSD card.
Lockups & crashes disappeared after following these tips.
Part of the problem is in their implementation of how to write save filenames. Particularly files <=8.3 FAT format. This was particular in the game Iron Man. I'm willing to bet that you had a file that was very short and the .SAV file it wrote screwed up the games. Only certain games would work after that. The FAT tables gets even worse as the game locks up and you try to run it again thus creating ANOTHER .SAV file. Reformatting the FAT table then naming the game with more than 8.3 should fix the problem.
I don't know if the current 1.16 firmware fixed that issue. Doubtful since they haven't even implemented simple sorting of games. If you want to try a different firmware for the DSTT to overcome its shortcomings, try YSMENU.
I don't know the actual cause, but I was having two problems.
Games would start to load, but never actually start. Games that would load, would at random times stop with the error message 'The DS card has been removed'.
Both problems appear to be solved for me by those two tips.
This allows you to play homebrew software and/or back ups of NDS roms. A nice feature is that it will hold a bunch of your ROMS on one micro SD and let your kids pick from a menu of what to play.
Of course I only suggest playing ROMs you actually own.

Thanks AlexJ...You buy a separate microSD card to plug into this I assume.
caveet emptor. there's a hube fuss about the 'quality' of these cards. apparently, half of them are defective or fake. I would advise that you look at the comments before purchasing.

I'm in for one... $7 seems like a great deal!
DealExtreme.com said: Update (11/19/2008): as new reports and concerns have been received from customers regarding this product's authenticity, DX is now performing 100% QC on the PCB to ensure all cards shipped features hardware that matches what is displayed in the photo gallery on the left and on the NDSTT.com website.
Looks like QC issues are being addressed...

how come these are so cheap compared to the m3, R4, and the original G6-Lite? I got the g6 lite w/ 512 mb about a year and a half ago for like $60 i think. have these things gotten that much cheaper already?
Thanks! op - I like the interface of the R4 but the TTDS holds a larger microSD - think that the R4 will hold a 2gb while the TTDS holds 8gb (I think) that means you can load up a few movies to keep the little ones busy; I even load up audiobooks, music & pictures for them.
for people wondering how to set it up; youtube has a kid thtdid a very nice job... last christmas I was busy trying to figure it all out as I am older than 15 I needed the vid.

Why? Because it's the ultimate case of irony. A smart hacker figures out a way to beat the game companies and makes a really cool device, spending lots of time and money to do so. Then, someone else comes along and copies it for free.

How can I infini-green that post!
The only one's I've tried so far are the AK2 (AceKard 2) and this here TopToy. The AK2 did movies and music, and this one may, too, but I only tried those on the AK2 so far. My DSTT does great with a 4GB MicroSDHC and it's supposed to hold up to 8GB, which would be uber data.
If the others go on sale as cheap I'll try them, but my needs are quite simple so I see no need to pay more than $6-12 for such an item (excluding SD card cost).

I believe I remember seeing something about the DSTT being able to handle up to 4GB uSDHC. I currently use AceKard 2 (which is opensource), and development for it moves along pretty well. It is one of the few cards right now that works with Star Wars: Clone Wars. You pay a little more for it (about $5 more) but the extra capacity, and to me, better compatibility makes it worth it.

100% SDHC TF and standard TF compatibility up to 4TB(4096GB) flash memory card.
Looks like 4 Terabyte limit (theoretical of course! )

Bought one and thanks OP! Do I need a TF card for this to work? and what is a TF card anyway? I already have some microSD cards, just not sure if that's enough since the DX site keeps mentioning TF card and I have no idea about that

For those that doubt the development cycle of AceKard, they just announced today the first retail slot 1 card capable of running backups on the newly released DSi. I believe this requires a brand new card even though it will work on older DS and DS Lite.
Before those who may say "well Team Cyclops said the same thing". Not true. While they may have something in lab working, they don't have a final product. Also, AceKard had something working in lab before Team Cyclops.

Just a heads up from my experience this model does tend to be more finicky on cheaper microsd cards.

The R4-III is compatible with the SDHC. People have reported success with the 4GB and 8GB.
Don't send anything back to them without tracking and/or sig confirmation. My three DSTTi's returned "never arrived", and since I sent USPS without DC or sig I'm out of luck, and the $30+.
