No it does not. You would have to get a cable card and a digital subscription. The unit DOES have a QAM tuner, the problem is there is no guide data for those channels and you would have to do a manual recording for the time and channel. That defeats one of the biggest features TiVo has. |

I'd still like to get in on this deal + CashBack. Anyone know if the TSN would be tied to the purchase or it's just a hurdle to get through the first link? What doesn't make sense to me is that TiVo only offers this deal to existing customers. Granted with this deal, it's not like you'll become a monthly subscriber and therefore not provide TiVo with additional revenue. As others have pointed out, it's not exactly the deal of the century (please link to the $200 non-eBay new TiVos), but it's one of the better deals out there for me. I'm buying it as a gift and the 30-day money back guarantee from TiVo would be nice if my sister doesn't like the device. I'm not a TiVo customer myself, but I run a MythTV box with a firewire-enabled cable box (SA3250). I wouldn't give MythTV as a gift to anyone without a lot of spare time to tinker. |

I have TiVo and while this deal is ok, it is not a barn-burner. I'd prefer to buy a unit of eBay, then get the lifetime deal for $350 or so also from eBay, get CashBack for both and end up with a grand total of about $450 for both. |

I am skeptical of "lifetime" deals, especially with companies that are perennial money-losers. Caveat emptor. I'm sure I'll get red from the TiVo lovers.  It is a great product, but the company is not in great shape (latest quarterly results with one-time lawsuit settlement money notwithstanding). |

I bought my TiVo in 2001 and have paid over a $1,000 in monthly service fees. I could have bought 3 lifetime service contracts for what I've paid in monthly service fees. I haven't had any problems with the unit and I upgraded it with 2 x 120GB internal disk drives about 6 years ago. I also have an old Panasonic Showstopper/Replay TV unit that came with lifetime service in 1999. It is still going strong but I did have to replace an 80GB internal disk drive that I had put in 8 years ago to replace the original 30GB drive. These units are very reliable if you take care of them. I'd like to get a TiVo HD unit to replace my Series 2 unit but I'm waiting for a better deal. I'm a little leary of buying one of the eBay units and they don't appear to be any cheaper than the refurb units directly from TiVo. |

Anybody know how big these hard drives are? How easy is it to replace the hard drive yourself? |

and if anything does happen to a TiVo, it is usually a hard drive issue. a 1 TB HD is under $100 now so it is a cheap fix anyway which will more than triple your recording capabilities. i know! and with hard drive plummeting, i have been so temped to upgrade to get more recording time but it runs like a champ so i have been holding off... |

I paid $199 for lifetime on my TiVo series 1 about 6 years ago, I think I made out OK. they even let me upgrade and transfer the lifetime license to a Series 2 when it came out. They won't, however, let me do the same to move to a TiVo HD. Given that my second DVR from Comcrap is $20.95/month, it will only take 30 months to buy the box and have lifetime service. I'll take that bet. I can buy an extra 65 hours of HD recording for $125 or so with an expansion drive, can't do that on the Motorola box at all. |

looks like this deal is still valid? Also appears that you can connect an external sata drive for more storage, so the deal for the cheaper one is better. I need to find out if time warner offers the same HD programming for cablecard as they do their STB.

The HDXL has a WD 1TB drive installed....I just upgraded 1 of my TivoHD this past week to a WD10-EVCS 1TB drive(best drive)drive was $110.00 install takes about a 1/2-1hr. complete! |

I'm not in HD yet buy have a TiVo series 2 that I've hacked (records 448 hours now) and I also have the lifetime subscription. It's way more than paid for itself in the close to 4 years that I've had it. I think I got the TiVo close to FAR and paid $199? for the lifetime. Im not sure what "problems" people are speaking of. It's just a basic motherboard with a hard drive. What's there to break? A hard drive??? Go out & buy another one. They are only $50 or so & the reliability of the drive has nothing to do with a reflection on the TiVo brand. |

Don't know how the HD models will age, but a swelled capacitor on a failed power supply is not "uncommon" for some Series two's. This too is fixable, but it's a hassle and if you pay someone to fix it,it will cost you. I guess the lifetime sub is a little bit of a gamble. As long as you're lucky, it's a good deal. |
