It has been coming in/out of stock for awhile. As for Sony, you can see on SonyStyle the PS3 page, when they show the unit spinning it has 4 usb, maybe a new unit? |

EezyBeezy said:Rumor from Sony is that the newer ps3's have the ability to play ps1 & ps2 games. It's a matter of time if they want to include a BC in a update. All PS3s are backwards compatible with PS1 games, but if the PS3 model you have isn't backwards compatible with PS2 games it will never be, the way it works is through a chip so they can't just have you download an update for it. If your PS3 doesn't have the chip for playing PS2 games you are SOL |

it was 499.99 directly from Amazon with FS, and no tax for some...it went really quick. bobbyx said:$650.00 ? ? ?
Wouldn't it be much better to by the newer version PS3 380GB with one of the Sony Card offers ($283.00 delivered), a new PS2 ($130.00 -$150.00), the Metal Gear Solid 4 game ($50.00) total $500.00 |

this was the last and probably only PS3 that has backwards compatibility so to be able to even find it, plus get free shipping and no tax (for most people) is a pretty nice deal. I completely regretted my Wii purchase, and even though I don't game much, I'm very happy with the 80gb PS3 Metal Gear Solid bundle. It's media capabilities is awesome, even despite some streaming issues. Blu-Ray movies are still too expensive for me, but even regular DVDs look much better when upconverted through the PS3. If you're a gamer, you'll definitely enjoy MGS4. I'm more of a casual gamer nowadays (I like playing flash based web games to kill a few mins), but I still enjoyed MGS4. The last Metal Gear game I played was the original Metal Gear on NES when I was just a kid, and I didn't even like it much back then. It's definitely a quality game. I just wish I had the time to play it. Those that got in on the HP MediaSmart Server deals should definitely consider picking up a PS3 to take advantage of their Hi-Def TV and the server & ps3's streaming capabilities. |

There are other features other than just PS2 compatibility, such as 4 USB ports, flash card slots, and SACD compatibility. |

The 60GB has the emotion chip, and full BC with almost every game. The old 80GB (the one in the MGS4 bundle) had software emulation BC just like the Xbox 360's BC. It doesn't work with every game (I've heard numbers from 50% to 80% for the PS3, I tend to believe that it's closer to 50%), but since it's using the PS3 hardware to do it, it might (I'm not sure) be able to upscale the games so that they look better (like the 360 does). The current model 80GB (and 160GB) PS3 includes no BC for PS2 (It does play PS1 games ), not even software emulation. |

Doesn't the new PS3 80/160 have the cooler running chip that drastically cuts the noise? Seems this would be especially good for movies and power consumption. The trade-off would be you lose 2 usb, memory slots and BC but gain a markedly quieter and more energy efficient device. Yes? |

The old 80GB used software to emulate emotion chip but it did have the GPU where the newer 80GB or the old 40GB had neither and thus unable to play PS2 games. |

Thanks OP! I snagged one tonight at 7:45 PM EST. I've been looking at PS3 deals for awhile and didn't realize the MGS4 bundle was still being sold. |
