I tried checking out a couple hours ago, and shipping was still free.

You can find the coupon by going to http://www.dell.com/outlet and clicking on the Super Savings Clearance Event on the right side of the page.

Yep, that works. The coupon is there. Unfortunately, the selection is cleaned out. I count 7 (seven) minis! That's the lowest selection I've seen since Christmas. I'm sure, once the coupon expires pages worth of minis will appear.
currently there are 16 pgs of minis ranging from $229-319

picked up a 32GB SSD with 1GB RAM and BT for $282 total, which includes tax shipping and the sucky Cali environmental fee.

there are a lot of them on there, I didn't have to waste half a day hunting for a slightly better price.

Got another one with a 32GB SSD this time. Too bad it's pink.... I'll have to swap some of the parts around and give my wife the pink one with 16GB SSD... =)

Where on earth did they go? I currently see one page with 1 (one) (16g/512meg/webcam) for $319. I even tried using IE to see if I had some weird session saving going on...

I've had no problem in the past seeing pages and pages, but those were times when I didn't have a coupon in hand.

edit: looks like they are restocking regularly, so I'll keep looking.

you see those 17" dual core intel monsters are $429 before 20%. man. mini is cool but thats pretty smokin'

anyone know what the Mini 10 is going to go for? Might hold out for the extra inch.

I tried to resist, but failed. In for a 4G/512 blk ubuntu -- $214 shipped incl. tax and haz fee!! I already have a 16Gb ssd, so I need to find a deal on RAM...

Thanks, all!!

They do indeed jack the prices up when they have active coupons. This morning, before the coupon was posted, they had a couple of pages of Minis with webcams for $239. Now if you're lucky enough to find one with a webcam (or any for that matter), they're at around $279 - 309.

UPDATE: Well, again I was happily proven wrong. Just nabbed one with a webcam (4gb / 512k RAM) for $239 plus tax minus 20% (Grand total: $214 with tax shipped). Not bad for a Skype video phone that does the web and other computery things.

In for a 4G/512 blk ubuntu -- $212 shipped.

Thanks, all!!

be sure to grab 16GB if you want to do OSX.

4gb SSD isn't really enough for XP (hibernate/swap) esp if you upgrade the ram.

1.3mp camera if you get any camera.

watch out for the ones with stickers on them they are pretty fugly. riced out laptop

32gb,512m,linux,1.3mp,bluetooth would be ideal deal.. anyone ever seen a 64meg ssd on outlet?

I agree. $20 to buy a 2GB SODIMM aftermarket, and install OSX. You forgot to mention ideal price... $229. =)

or here.

Edit: (was Three, now) Four options availble for me right now...

Ubuntu/ 16g/1g/1.3 cam for $260 shipped
XP 16/1/1.3 web cam and BT $295 shipped
Ubuntu 4g/512/1.3 webcam $208 shipped.
Ubuntu/ 32g/1g/1.3g webcam 278 shipped -- This one just came up, and I'm out of browsers to search with. I think we have a winner here! I'll be tossing the others back momentarily.

I may want to run XP, but I have a license I can use so it rubs me the wrong way to pay "extra" for that. I'd like to try MacOS and Ubuntu, too. BT is not necessary right now, but it's a bonus. The 16g drive is nice on both those systems... it looks like I can get a Dell 16g ssd for about $70. I'm sure that will go down in the next couple months.

If I go with the cheapie and upgrade to a 2gb ram, is it even going to usable while I wait for a bigger SSD (mostly for web surfing, email, blogging, etc)

Which one (or 2. Mrs Dogstar has a b-day coming up) would _you_ choose?

Just got one for $198
Finally! I've been mulling over a netbook purchase for months and have grown tired of waiting. Great to have this over with. Thanks for all the helpful posts!

i thought you could use a xp recovery disc on an ubuntu model?

haha i thought this was new technology...but they already have refurbs?? wow!

Me too! However, I went with the Lenovo about 20 minutes ago.

This was the final straw on the Dell. The reviews have been so mixed.

http://forums.thoughtsmedia.com/f305/dell-inspiron-mini-9-not-ne...

It was a hard choice, but I am happy. The Lenovo was 314. Worth the extra cash to me for the bigger, matte screen, bigger hd, better wifi and expandability.

Nah, lots of minis with Ubuntu under $239 -- like 10 pages. There's some issue with their filtering. It's bit me before. Try it again

Many thousands of them..makes me wonder a little about qualiy control.

Got one.
Ubuntu/32g/1g/1.3g webcam for $278 shipped, and that's with ~$25/tax. Pretty good. Thanks OP and everyone else with their info on this thread. Now to decide if I should hunt down a case or make one out of duct tape as I have my last three laptops.

And to decide if I wanna go, Windows 7, OS X or stay with Ubuntu. Maybe all three?

What's the easiest way to install OS X these days?

Dogstar said: What's the easiest way to install OS X these days?

Google Type11's method.

I was able to resist for a quite a bit since the ones with the 16GB or more storage were all in "Pretty Pink". Unfortunately Alpine White with Ubuntu came up.

Still, I think $252.94 is a great deal! Thanks all!

I've got a 32GB Pink in my cart right now that I'm having trying hard to convince myself to release...

godddddd.... under 200 for one of these... must... resist...

don't even need it for another 6 months.... grrrr

I bought one with Ubuntu/32g/1g/no BT/no webcam, previously ordered new for $267 shipped. I am planning to loaded XP Pro, office, firefox, movie/music/audio books, eBooks. I have used ubuntu, OS X and Vista on other laptops. XP works just as well and takes less space.

People wanted them for XMAS. Especially the Pretty in Pink!

wow just received it. must say it does suck in comparison to other netbooks. screen, keyboard, thickness. poopy

There's always a trade-off. Lenovo is heavier, only 3-cell battery, noisier, one less USB port, etc.

While it has a bigger screen and a more power-hungry HD, I'd think they'd give it a bigger battery...but it's a 3-cell compared to the Dell Mini's 4-cell.

no really the mini-9 sucks azz compared to (MSI,HP,Lenovo) in a large way.

it is more like the ASUS EEE original than anything.

wow didn't know they could cram so much crap in.

typical Dell kwalitee

i got the mini 9 but the Lenovo s10e has veri face, which is very cool

Yeah, I am getting my company to buy me the 6 cell battery With that, I think I am gold.

WOW! Are you kidding me!

$25 for the large stickers!
$30 for the set!

We installed over 1200 Apple IIe's for a public school system.

Each computer had 3-4 sets, sometimes more.

We completely covered a 4 drawer filing cabinent using the large ones.
We stuck them on things just to be sticking them on things.(because they are "stickers").
We quickly tired of it and began throwing them away.

I could have had them all!!! Nobody wanted them!

No I was not kidding. That was posted in the spirit in the typical Apple user’s brainwashed mentality: if I am not paying 10x the price for hardware at least 2 generations behind current PC technology then it is simply not worth it and is not going to work. Evidentially that idiom seems to apply to Apple stickers too

I don't want to say don't get this, I may have just had a fluke. BUT the one I bought was broken. I called customer service and "you'll have to wait till Monday nobody is here for those today" I know it sounds impossible to have happened, but it did.

I'm sending the unit back, already replaced with an asus something or other.

Thanks for the advise.
Just ordered a 16GB white for $232.93

Grr...why do I come here as I just end up ordering stuff I don't *need* but definitely want. Well, hopefully it works well for my purposes and I don't get in too much trouble for my purchase. :-D

I'd go with 32GB SSD if you are going to do OSX. it is a pig! about 8GB to load the OS without stripping. no ilife, no iwork, no office etc.

otherwise osx 10.5 installed picture perfect according to the mydellmini docs and upgraded fine to 10.5.6 and then subsequent system updates. I have to say the webcam is defective on mine or i got shafted with a 0.3mp one as it looks atrocious in ichat like the HP 1000 webcam. Worse than any camera phone by a long shot.

8GB for XP
16GB barely for OSX
32GB = good to go.

Sleep works fine with the STEC drives and i must say OSX is quite snappy. I only have 1GB of ram since i do not wish to give up more disk space to hibernation and i'd say it smokes XP with 2GB of ram (with ramdisk for temp/IE cache).

keyboard and fit and finish are extremely poor compared to Lenovo or HP as i said before. It feels like a toy.
