Password A Power-on password (POP) protects the system from unauthorized use. If a POP is set, the password prompt appears: Each time the system is turned on When the system is returned to normal operation from suspend mode A Supervisor Password provides a higher level of security than the POP. The Supervisor Password protects the system functions from being used by unauthorized users, and protects the hardware configuration from unauthorized modification. The Supervisor Password prompt appears: When the BIOS setup screen is accessed. A hard drive Password (HDP) protects hard drive data from unauthorized users. Once HDP is set, data on the hard drive cannot be accessed without the correct HDP. Because the HDP is stored in the hard drive, the data remains protected even if the hard drive is removed to another system. The HDP password prompt appears: Each time the system is turned on Software Operating system Microsoft Windows XP Professional (no service pack, SP1, SP1a, SP2) with USB 2.0 support Storage Optical drive 24x-8x DVD Ultrabay slim drive Hard drive features Supported hard drive thickness: 9.5mm for all systems Standard 40GB hard drive size Supports one additional hard drive which can be used concurrently to offer expanded storage in the Ultrabay Slim S.M.A.R.T technology to issue an alert if a hardware failure is pending ATA Bus Interface 4200, 5400,or 7200 rpm depending on drive size Although you can upgrade the hard drive, it is not designed to be removed and reinserted on a regular basis. Repeated and frequent removal, for purposes other than to upgrade for greater capacity, can cause damage to the system. The Ultrabay Slim hard drive adapter is designed to provide this flexibility with a second hard drive in the Ultrabay Slim. The Hard Drive Active Protection system protects your hard drive when the shock sensor inside your ThinkPad computer detects a situation that could potentially damage the hard drive Display 14.1inch, 16M colors, XGA (1024 768 resolution) TFT display Graphic Controller Video chipset: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900
Tech Specs Slightly imperfect In the market for a notebook at the best price available? Our vast inventory of fully-refurbished, tested and guaranteed IBM Certified Used notebooks includes some systems that have minor cosmetic flaws including minor nicks and scratches. These systems are completely functional and are backed with a 30 day limited warranty. Hurry, supplies are very limited
I almost ordered the router, thinking this post was talking about 2 different offers. Just so no one else makes the same error, I'll point out what to some was obvious. The router is FAR only when purchased on the same receipt as any laptop computer valued at $299.00 or higher from Buy.com.
Doesn't have to be this laptop. No rebate on router alone.
Unless you really need a cheap XP machine or like the security of the IBM, you'd be better off with any number of sub-$400 machines that'd trounce this one. Even with the router it's not worth it IMO.
From past experience I seriously doubt these are true IBM factory refurbs. More likely off-lease used serviceable systems with "warranty" from the distributor.

You can probably shag a R60 off eBay for around the same price. It's slightly heavier and thicker than the T43, but gets you a Core Duo CPU and probably a CDRW/Combo drive.
Congratulations

I bought one recently from Buy.com (not even a week) and it came with a power pack, the laptop and the winxp pro cd with sp3; battery was in the laptop unit already; it also had a couple papers: one about the battery possibly being drained from storage, so to let it recharge; and the other paper had a contact email at metropc.com and a phone number... Their site I found www.metropc.com , most likely they did the refurbishing. They offer the 30 day warranty
The laptop came clean. All the keys were clean, the outside was clean. I haven't disassembled it yet, one of these days I will. The screen was good, I had no dead pixels.
Right now it's $289 at Buy.com and with google I think you can find some $10 coupon to make it 279. I chose free shipping and it came the 2nd day after the day I ordered (3 days total including order date)
Now my T41 has a friend, T43.
update...
Under the laptop it has 2 certificates of authenticity (COA) stickers...
one says Windows XP Professional; Lenovo Singapore
the other COA says Windows XP Pro Refurbished PCs; METRO BUSINESS SYSTEMS (this is the one used for WinXP key)
-so maybe the laptop came from a business environment in Singapore to metropc where they refurbished it..
-also Lenovo battery software said that battery health was ~48% (while fully charged)
