Amazon's MP3 album Daily Deal for 12/30/08 is "The 99 Most Essential Beethoven Masterpieces", played by various artists,
released today.

This is probably the best MP3 Daily Deal they've ever had -- about *16 HOURS* of Beethoven for $1.99

(Seriously--I put the track timings into a spreadsheet and added 'em all up--it comes to about 15 hours, 49 minutes, 48 seconds).

Just listening to the *track-previews* for all the tracks will take around 50 minutes (again, not kidding).

It's got small pieces like Fur Elise to string quartets and concertos to movements from the symphonies.
And it appears to have a mix of lesser known artists and groups along with orchestras like the London Symphony Orchestra
and a few piano tracks played by Alfred Brendel.

For those of you who already have Beethoven's symphonies and are concerned about duplication, you'll be pleased to know
that only 17 of the 99 tracks are movements from the 9 symphonies, representing just under 3.25 hours out of the
total 16 hours.

For those of you who might want the symphonies, note that only the 9th symphony appears in full
(note: for some reason, the tracks of its 4 movements are not grouped together--you might want to arrange
them in your MP3 player)--all the other symphonies have only between 1-3 of their 4 movements represented
(most have only 1 or 2). However, it would be a bit churlish to complain, given that it's only $1.99

EDIT: Note that the reviews point out that a bunch of the longer pieces (and not just the symphonies) only appear in part.

The download is 1.48 gigabytes in size and will take a nice while to complete.

Yeah you do. Once you click the yellow bar and save, you will get an amz file. You will need to right click that file and open with Amazon downloader for it to download all the songs or else it will be useless.
